Yep! We have always done this. My kids don't really care for most of the candy anyway,. maybe because we've always done this? We take out a few items that they like and then exchange the rest of it for a gift. We're especially opposed to hard, sugary candies. I just imagine my kids' teeth rotting when they eat this stuff. Ugh! I figure a gift at Halloween (and Easter too!) is probably cheaper than expensive dental work!
