The page Penny linked to says you can get a free upgrade for the educational version - woohoo!
I tried to get a free upgrade when CS5 first came out. I didn't know about the upgrade program; I contacted customer support by phone and was told that I purchased outside the timeframe. If I remember correctly, it was 30 days. I think I purchased CS4 70 days before CS5 was announced
