I had a planned cs for my fist because he was breech. I was terrified to the spinal block & having hysterics before it, but it turns out that is just how I behave before surgeries & nothing to do with the cs specifically. It went well, I felt like I had done 100 sit ups while someone whacked me in the abs with a baseball bat for a day or so after they removed the morphine drip, really sore but not really in pain if you know what I mean. I had him on Monday & my milk came in Friday . Left the hospital on Thursday. I did have a reaction to the glue in the pressure bandage they used but other than that it went really well. I was up and doing things like usual, a bit more slowly perhaps, within days of leaving the hospital. I felt really good, almost normal apart from slight nagging soreness on my right side, within 9 days of the cs.
On the 11th day I collapsed in screaming pain & had to have an appendectomy. I left the hospital 12 hours after that & really within 24 hours I just felt kind of tired & worn out like any new mother.
I had my second by VBAC & that was in many ways a harder recovery, if nothing else because people hear you have a cs and say "Oh how can I help, you should lay down" but they hear you had a vaginal delivery and all they say is "Oh can I hold the baby". Plus it was so much easier for me to sit down & to go to the bathroom while recovering from a CS as opposed to a vaginal delivery.
