In addition to what wendy mentioned they usually are best to be bought from breeders. Our sphynx kittens are the first pet i've ever owned that aren't rescues. It's hard to get a sphynx from a rescue because a lot of times they can be in poor health. Sphynx are prone to a genetic heart condition called HCM (which ironically my dad has as well) and you have to be careful with who you buy them from. Most breeders have it in the contract for you to get a yearly cardiology test for your sphynx because HCM can pop up often. Most recommend that they are strictly indoor cats. They can even get burned by looking out the windows too much in the summer. They also eat like horses. haha. All that being said we have ZERO regrets. They are amazing animals and to know one is to love one. I've never seen such an affectionate breed.
