I do get annoyed when I do something courteous for a stranger and don't get a "thank you" back from them, but I don't voice that opinion outloud (unless I'm driving in the car and they can't hear me, LOL!).
I hold/open doors for people, I say please and thank you, etc etc. It's how I was raised, and it's how my kids will be raised as well.
