Cheese and Ham Strata
16 slices bread, white or brown
Thinly sliced back bacon or ham
Slices of sharp cheddar cheese
6 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 cup minced onion
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Dash of Tabasco
3 cups milk
1/2 cup butter
Crushed Cornflakes
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
- Arrange 8 crust free slices of bread in the bottom of baking dish. Cover with a single layer of ham, add a layer of cheese. Cover with remaining slices of bread like a sandwich. Beat eggs. Add salt and pepper, mustard, onion, green pepper, sauces and milk. Cover and refrigerate over night. In the morning melt butter, pour over top, sprinkle with crushed cornflakes. Bake uncovered in a (9x13) pan at 350 for 1 hour. Let stand for 10 min. before serving.
Serves 6 or more.
