I hardly ever use templates, other than the occasional Babe LO. I kinda just start placing things on a page, move them around alot, try different coloured papers, etc until it 'looks right'. There's absolutely no real method to what I do - other than using lots of elements on my pages. I don't know if that's helpful! I'd say just have fun with it. It took me a few years to get from where I started to the LOs I do now. I occasionally look at LOs on Pinterest or in the gallery when I'm stuck but just playing around and taking the view 'anything goes' seems to work best for me.
