I just lost my 2-yo EHD a month or so ago...it sucks. I lost all the products I've made, all my layouts, all the kits I've ever bought...thankfully my pics were backed up (but the panic I was in until I realized that I *had* put them somewhere else was scary).
Places like Staples can recover bad drives, though...take it in and give it a try. They won't charge you anything if they can't get anything off it, and I think it's $250 to recover all data. I'm taking mine in in a couple weeks...hope to get something off of it...
