OMG...this is soooo true!!!! and what we did with our kids was get them each a $100 Dinsey giftcard and told them that was their money to spend on whatever they wanted and it worked out so well for us! And we also did the "we will shop on the last day " kinda deal and they really went for it and ended up getting the things they really wanted!
