I posted at Ravelry too but know you crafty ladies may be able to help too.
I’m teaching myself to knit and so far I’ve got two garter stitch scarves done and just taught myself to purl BUT… I’m wanting to recreate a scarf I have that is smooth and flat with “v”s on both sides. When I knit one row and purl the next row, I made a stockinette stitch and was so proud of myself, but obviously those roll, so not good for a scarf.
So, if I purl every stitch and every row, would that recreate the “v”s on both sides? I’m using BIG needles and thick’n’quick yarn like I did for my garter stitch scarf.
I’m confused because things I see online show a “purl side” as the one with bumps and a “knit side” with v’s (or maybe that’s when you look at the back side of your needles?)
Then I tried k2, p2 but that gives me big ribs… maybe the one I’m trying to copy has only a small rib between the v’s… may upload a pic if that helps.
Sorry for a dumb newbie question- but help would be GREATLY appreciated!
