You are not the slightest bit weird! I'm not a pet person, and I would absolutely have brought the hamster to the vet and paid the extra for it to be euthanized. My one "weird" animal thing that my family makes fun of me for is that I won't kill bugs when they get into the house. I catch them in something and then release them outside.
I never did the change of clothes at a photographer, but that's because of the tolerance of my family members for photos. I knew I was pushing my luck asking them to cooperate even without the "annoyance" of having to change clothes.
