You are not weird at all! Taking a beloved pet to the vet is the kind and compassionate thing to do. And don't get me started on photos. I always took multiple outfits for baby/toddler photos. I even spent exorbitant amounts to do to Sadie's (did your mall have them) and do the photos with seasonal props like a Harley/garage in June, a kissing booth for Valentine's day and a whole classic Christmas setup with a fireplace at Christmas. One year I even brought the dogs along. Worth every penny. We did the annual pics with bunnies and chicks at Easter until Connor was in jr high and I got push back.
