I have also thought about this. I currently still have most of my layered files (but I now do TIFF not PSDs, I think they are smaller in size and I like seeing the preview of what it is.) I am missing a few from many years ago and I had a crash...before I knew about Back Blaze.
Only a few of times I have I taken an old LO and opened the layered file, sometimes its to fix a typo and sometimes to recreate that LO.
Just a reminder, Back Blaze says the EHD should be plugged in once a month as well. I just leave mine attached to the desktop. And when I scrap on my laptop, I save into dropbox cause then it will be on my desktop too.
