I took my Rebel and my P&S and on some days I took my rebel and some I took my P&Sl and I didn't have any regrets either way. Honestly, normally the sun is out for such a long time, that you usually get pretty good pictures with your P&S. My night pictures I took with my Rebel so I had more control of the apeture/SS/ISO....but I do recommend a good P&S if that is all you are going to take
