I actually liked this about the whole movie. The camera work kept it so that you knew WHAT was happening, but you didn't have to explicitly see it. It is in theory a young adult book, so I can see why they would want to keep it in the PG 13 range.
While the shaking made me a bit crazy from time to time, I do feel like it added to the "harried" nature of the situation, kwim?
