Much like others, I consolidate to one folder. Typically I drag everything into the whatever I consider the main elements folder. I will combine everything except papers, templates and cards, which remain in stand-alone folders within my main folder. I'm not religious about deleting extras, but I typically let them overwrite when dragging and dropping.

For templates, I delete everything except the preview and the TIFFs.

I'm on a MAC, every main folder gets a preview added and is tagged with designer, store and if applicable, type.

This is totally first world problem, but I don't love the extra step of having to rename elements that are different, but are named the same thing (i.e. within a collection the designer has the same name for elements as they do for something they've zipped into a different folder so that when you drag and drop you either have to rename or overwrite). I also have a preference for less folders at download (I personally don't need to differentiate between solid and patterned papers - unless they are sold separately).
