Odds are good they bought that corn at Martins or Wal Mart & are selling it at the stand for a profit. We get a lot of that in the summer. The farmer's market people are trustworthy enough but the random farm stands are not.
We go to a farm stand, but it's not really random. The woman who sells the produce can answer all sorts of questions about the veggies and fruits they sell. The peaches are from Georgia and we're definitely NOT in Georgia. Corn here isn't ready either, but if you ask they'll tell you where they're sourcing it from. I am quite sure that this farm partners up with other farms in other states to keep the produce moving all summer. Our farmstand folks told us when to expect local corn.
