I have had the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 for 5 years. It has been on my camera probably 50% of the time, taking pictures of toddlers, so it has been very ungently used. And I still get amzing pictures from it. I have the Canon 100 macro lens, which I think gives me the best quality pictures of all my lenses, but there are times when I don't know if a picture is taken with my 100 or 28-75, if I used them both on the same day. I prefer prime lenses, but if you are going on vacation on want a better all around lens than the kit lens. The Tamron is a great buy. Canon is more than double the price, and you don't get double the quality as far as results go.
