I got a similar email shortly after my daughter's baby shower. A friend of her's who had twins and one passed away in the hospital from an infection and from my understanding had had previous miscarriages had just announced she was pregnant. She asked me if I would do some family pictures of her and her husband and son when she got a little further along. Then a few weeks later she sent me a message to say she wouldn't be doing the maternity photos because she had miscarried. I already knew she had from my daughter but it made me feel really sad for her as well. The loss to me is the same as losing a baby or child because you love them from the second you learn you are pregnant. I agree with the person who said to email her and express your condolences for her loss and let her know you have cried for her loss as well.
