Similar to yours Tammy. We let the bday person pick either going out or what they want cooked. Cake is their choice, whether bought or I bake it. We do a few presents at home.
When they were elementary ages we'd have parties often too.
I've had a few parties when I was younger. And DH surprised me with a party a few years ago which was nice.
