I think that having a basement helps with not having the clutter in the garage, at least for me. Now that both the garage and the basement are cleared of clutter, I'm keeping them that way. That was one huge project that took me quite awhile.
Oh yeah, basements are a very good idea to have where I live.... we have 2 "tornado seasons" a year and the 2nd one is coming up. I have a chair, a tv hooked to cable and a lantern down there so I can settle in if needed. Oh, I do grab a blanket as well since it can get cold down there!
