Default PLEASE, I beg you...

... go RIGHT now and back up your computer files!!!

I DROPPED MY EHD! It stopped working so I took it into an electronics repair place on base and they said they could not retrieve any of the data. I had ALL my photos, LOs and digital kits on there!!! This is SO stupid, but I hadn't backed up since about Sept, so all my photos and print size LOs since then are gone... AND either I can't find the DVDs my scrap stuff is on, or I never backed those up. GRRR! So, I contacted Drive Savers www.drivesavers.com and they seem to be pretty confident they can retrieve most of the stuff... to the tune of about $1800.00!!! OMG!

Anyway, PLEASE go right now and back up anything important to you! I knew better and I didn't. Don't make my mistake.

OHHHH NOOO!! That's terrible! Goodness, sorry to hear that happened to you. I certainly don't back up as much as I should but I'll surely be doing it tonight - thanks for the reminder.

Eek, that's an awful thought. I hadn't even thought about backing mine up. I don't know why I hadn't thought to do it though. Thanks for posting this.

I wonder if that's who Julie used.....

As I type this I'm backing up my regular 2.5 year old 250gb ehd onto my shiny new 500gb ehd that arrived today. And I have several DVD's of the important stuff (mostly just the photos) backed up.

I'm SO sorry you lost everything. I hope they can get it all back for you!

I have been uploading slowly, but surely to Mozy over the past month or so. I can't wait for it to be done, I'll feel so much better.

I'm so sorry this happened to you! I hope they can get the stuff back for you!

I just got mine back and it was around $1800 too. I HATED to pay that but it had every picture, every layout, every kit and everything I had designed. I struggled with paying that, but my husband had lost all his childhood pics in a fire so he was insistant that we get the pics because we couldn't stand losing all the pics of our boys childhoods. I went through Best Buy and they sent it to some place in Minnesota that did it. They had to completely rebuild it in a "clean room" environment- then transfer it to a new EHD (included in the price). I'm sick over the price, but I am thrilled to say they got over 95% of my stuff back!

I'm in the process of reorganizing my files again and then I'm getting Mozy plus putting it all on a second EHD and putting it in a safe deposit box. I'll never trust computers again, that is for sure.

I'm SO SO sorry for the loss, Laura. I know the struggle you are going through and tears are in my eyes thinking about it because I know how I cried when mine died. ((hugs))

I'm sorry that happened to you. It's my worst fear. I have an EHD for storage only. I only work off my HD, that way the EHD barely gets any action.

I don't need to right now. My photos are all backed up thru Dell Data Safe. I've gotten some new stuff but i'm low on dvds, lol. Least I keep back ups of my orders, in case I WOULD happen to have something happen to them, knock on wood.
I feel so aweful you lost all that . Thanks for the reminder.

Wow, that is so sad. I wish I had a different way to back up ... I don't have a DVD drive! All I can do is itty bitty CD's. What's a girl to do??

Thanks for the reminder ... I better go make sure that at least my photos are backed up!

I'm sorry, but the only thing I'd pay $1800 to get back would be my photos. Kits can be re-bought, layouts can be remade, but memories don't get a do-over.

Sorry that happened to you Laura. I do have an EHD that has everything on it, but everything on it is already backed up to DVD &/or my online photo storage place.

that happened to me about a year ago. I only lost kits and about a month of photos as I had backed up to another ehd. So now I back up to an ehd, plus I got Mozy as a back up too! You can not be too careful!

Ok so I know this sounds crazy but I heard that sometimes if you put your hard drive in the freezer you can get your files back. TRUST ME I know it sounds crazy but I have heard it work a couple times. They were not external but it never hurts to try? My husband works on computers and he has told me this... I was thinking he was nuts but then my friend tried it and it worked. Really weird, I know.

Good luck! I'd be miserble if I lost all of my files. I even told my husband to by a fire proof safe that fit my scrapbooks... he informed me he already thought of that lol. He knows me so well

I've contacted the stores I purchase from more frequently asking if they can reset my DLs and thankfully, the ones I've heard back from have been very kind to do so. I can't possibly remember all the stuff I had so I'm just going by my order histories and figuring out which stuff I really want back. Unfortunately a couple stores have changed shopping carts, so my order history is gone. Oh, well, a lesson learned for sure.

On the bright side, I've been wanting to get ACDsee Photo Manager and get all my stuff organized, but couldn't fathom the thought of going through all that stuff. SO, now I can start fresh and do that. lol
