Default I need a 12-step scrap purging program...

It's bad, ladies and gents....very bad. I've been scrapping since July 2005. I have NEVER deleted a kit that wasn't just a really bad freebie. I have every CT kit, every purchase, everything. I can't bear the thought of breaking up kits and purging things I won't ever use. I finally started to organize my supplies with ACDSee tonight and I know I need to just tag what I want and delete the rest....but it's SO hard!! I'm a packrat by nature and save everything...how do you let go?!

HA! That is the ONLY reason I got rid of some of my older stuff! I had so much I'm not even sure what all I lost!

Hard drive space isn't the problem, unless it decides to crash, knock on wood it doesn't! I'm just overwhelmed with things I'm never going to have the chance to use (or want to at this point with all the great new stuff out there). Is this sudden urge to clean things up a pregnancyelated phenomenon? LOL Maybe I'll just ignore it.

I had a hard time deleting my first things too but after that it felt so good to just get rid of all the junk that I do it regularly now.
Really, you won't use all that old stuff probably so it's just sitting there taking up space that a gorgeous new kit could use.
My rule is if I have never used it, or won't in the next few months, or even if I haven't used it more than once, it goes.

I am a packrat when it comes to scrapping, but I'm trying to improve. I think the thought of deleting is much worse than actually doing it.

I think of it like cleaning out my closet. I have clothes that I really like, but will ALWAYS choose something else over them. If I haven't worn something in over a year, it goes, no matter how much I like it. I try to apply the same type of theory with scrapping... it works sometimes, but there are somethings I just can't let go of, LOL!

Take a close look at those 2005 kits. Things have come a LOOOOOOOONG way since then. There's gotta be some stuff that you would never use because it's not the quality we have today and/or so out of style. I know I look at some of the papers, brads and ribbons from back then and just kinda shake at what I thought looked so "real."

You can do it Teresa!! Hit that delete button!!!

Alternatively, you can make another folder, and move everything you think you want to get rid of into that folder. Give yourself a set amount of time.. I usually do a month.. and if you haven't touched it in a month, it's GONE.

really when i need to purge i look at whatever it is, i'm really honest with myself, i then allow a quick yes or no in my head and move on.

Thanks, ladies!! This has been very helpful! I deleted quite a bit last night but man oh man this is going to take awhile. Once I decide what I actually want to keep, I'll get to tagging...someday this project will be done and I'll be a much more efficient scrapper. LOL

anyone else have folders of 'schtuff' you bought because you saw FAB LO's made with it but once you spent your money, unzipped the folder and looked at everything.. there was no way in heck you were ever going to be to produce LO's like what you saw. There are a few designers (not here) that were getting/do get major major hype.. i jumped on the bandwagon and now their kits are collecting dust. I actually went through my kits this morning and though I am not sure what to do with these unused kits.. i don't have the heart to delete them. I am so much better about not following the crowd and getting sucked into the hype.. *sorry for the random hijack of the thread*

Once you delete stuff, I bet you'll never miss it.

My biggest problem is that when I look at stuff I find myself thinking, "well, I could use that." But I should really be asking myself, "Will I use that?"
