not sure if they are the same but we have boars where we live also. I have a funny story for you about them though. My husband back when he was an older kid (17ish maybe 18) saw a pack of wild pigs next to a roadway inside a fenced area. There was a few adults(probably mommies) and a few babies. He went and jumped the fence, grabbed one of the babies and discovered that mommy pigs are VERY protective of their babies. Yep he was charged for said pig. He managed to make it over the fence and back into the car with the pig. He kept the pig (did not eat it ever) and raised it where it was very tame. It eventually got way to big though and he had to get rid of it. He gave it to a place that had a petting zoo in the area and he lived for a long time there. He might even still be there but we have not been there in awhile. I am shocked at some of the stuypid things my husband has done. I would have never thought to try to steal a baby pig LOL

Am I the only one that said "Awwww, how cool" when I looked at the picture! Of course, I don't know much about the animal and had no idea it was mean & nasty. LOL!

the first time I heard that story I busted up laughing at the thought of a mommy pig coming after him. He said she was squealing and grunting and running really fast and that he had no idea they could run so darn fast :-)

Oh no...those things attack. I have friends who have lost pets to them. And imagine small kids out in the yard. They are seriuosly ferocious.

Yeah, there used to be herds(packs? don't know what a group of them is called?!?!) living in the San Jose foothills(CA-Silicon Valley). They can be VERY dangerous and also destructive. They also have a ton of parasites... every once in awhile, we would have news stories about people trying to hunt them for game! There would also be times when the population was getting too large and/or were coming too close to neighborhoods.

HOLY COW!!! EEEEK! Keep those suckers over there in AZ! LOL! I'm so scared over here of getting sprayed by a skunk I couldn't imagine how I would be worrying about one of those showing up when I'm outside!

I looked them up to see if they are the same type of animals that live here in Florida and it says they are not even related to pigs. Can you believe that? It said they are closely related to hippos. They are actually peccaries. That is pretty cool to know. I figured they were some sort of wild pig but they arent.

My brother & SIL are missionaries to Mexico & her grandparents live in Amado. So, whenever they come up to the states just for a weekend or to get stuff they can't get in the states or get their mail, etc., they stay in Amado. Maybe sometime when I'm there visiting (who knows when) we could get together!!!

Yuck, those are not happy critters. I had one run out in front of my car years ago...nearly ended up with pork splattered all over the front of my dinky Corolla.
