Default Can you take Vitamin C when your pregnant?

So I have had this cold for three weeks and it was so yucky last night I was sure it was a sinue infection. Now I am thinking its just a yucky cold again cause my symptoms are changing yet again. My husband got it after me and was over it in about 4 days lucky man! He took vitamin c, can I take it?? I Need something to help get me over this hump.

I dont see why not. I drank a ton of O.J. everyday and its full of vitamin C but Id ask your doctor about any safe medications/supplements first just to be safe

Hey Sarah-

I've been looking into this too as I'm absolutely miserable with a cold and praying it doesn't go into sinus infection again. I've already been on one round of antibiotics this winter.

Here's some info on Baby Center about vitamin C: http://www.babycenter.com/406_is-it-...ncy_1246889.bc

It's conflicting to say the least....I think I'd stick with the dosage in your prenatal vitamin and what you get naturally in your diet instead of taking supplements. I finally got my low-acid OJ again yesterday and will keep drinking that along with using a little Vaporub to breathe better that DH ran out to get for me at 11pm last night. Saline nasal drops can help too.

Hope you feel better soon!!

Holy Cow Teresa, i would never ever think scurvy, yeah maybe I will err on the side of caution. I have been living off of saline nose drops and a humidifier. I am also having that lovely sciatica pain at night so I need to get some tylenol. The joys of pregnancy huh LOL I hope you get over your cold soon sweety, I know just how miserable it is. I didnt know they made low acid o.j. Im going to have to look into that too!

Sure you can! Vitamin C does not store itself in your body, so you need to replenish it every day. I took a lot of it when I was pregnant.

Yup, the low-acid OJ is awesome! Tropicana makes it...I've only been able to find it at Sam's Club. They used to carry it at Whole Foods, but recently stopped at the store near me- maybe you'd have some luck there?

Love your avatar BTW. DH and I were just joking about taking a photo like that last night!

the problem with OTC vit c is that it's not naturally derived. that's the problem. it's chemically produced vit c.

get organically/naturally derived and you cannot go wrong. in fact, that's what you should do for all your vits. even your prenatals. the docs who prescribe prescription (chemical) prenatals are morons. sorry, it irks me.

Aww thank you! I almost coudn't pull it off cause I could barely hold the camera comfortablly and my husband was looking at me like I was insane LOL. you know I was thinking though I am kinda embarresed to admit this so go easy on me but I stopped taking prenatals after the first trimester. Do you think since I am not on that the vitamin C wouldn't be as bad. Im so freakin confused now.

sorry now i'm on a rant.

read this (it's not long): http://www.gnld.com/philosophy_pro.a...TEGORY_ID=3237

these are the vitamins my family puts in our bodies, we hardly EVER get sick, etc.

these vitamins are the only vitamins on the planet backed by MEDICAL research and by DOCTORS. this company has been leading the way for years, but has only gotten credit for it recently. they also teach the MD's at Stanford about nutrition.

Orange juice is awesome because it also contains folic acid which is vital for pregnant mommies.

also wanted to add you can get vitamin c from lots of other sources. When my kids were little I mistakingly gave them alot of juice and a nutritionist told me while juice is good for you it is better to eat the actual fruit then to consume it all in liquid form. She told me that you are losing alot by drinking juice and not eating the actual fruit and because it takes more then one fruit to make a glass of juice then you are consuming more calories that way too
