Question Netflix on Wii??

My boys seem to think that if we pay $5 to get the internet on the Wii that we should be able to watch Netflix (instant play) movies on it ... but if that was possible, wouldn't Netflix list the Wii as compatible devices?

Has anyone explored this?

netflix only has a few compatible machines that allow you to instant que directly to them.

here is the list: PS3, XBox 360, roku digital video player, LG network tv's and Bluay players, Samsung network Bluay players and TiVo HD DVR's.

You can do it on the XBox 360 but I don't believe you can do it on the Wii.

I know nothing at all about Netflix. Though, you shouldn't need to pay anything to use your wii online. It comes equipped with a wireless reader. You just need a wireless route to send off a signal and set it up on your console.

You used to have to use points to get the internet channel on Wii but now you don't.

thanks for the info ladies! guess i will power up a "school computer" since they are on winter break and watch some movies on there while I scrap ... was hoping I wouldn't have to buy something special to watch it on my tv... but the boys will be happy to know the internet channel is free on wii now.

If you want to watch netflix (or youtube or hulu) on the wii, you can download playon and watch them wirelessly through the internet channel on your wii. There is a 14 day trial so can see if it works for you and then decide if you want to purchase the software for $39.99. I have been using it for the trial period now and have to say I really am enjoying it and will probably splurge and get it so I don't have to hook up our computer anymore. The wires were driving me crazy and we couldn't get our volume just right.

Interesting ... hmmm wonder why Netflix doesn't make themselves compatible on their own??

I was watching a few movies through the computer connection last night and it would come up with "your internet connection has slowed" ... so I went back to browsing dvds...then when I went back & clicked on the movie again...it ran the whole movie without interruption. So far I have just watched it on my pc.

Thanks for telling us about this...

oh that sounds very interesting, Darla! We have a Netflix Roku player already and I love it but it would be cool to be able to watch Hulu too!

I was reading online that netflix and wii and apple are in talks to make them compatible but there was no estimated timeline on when this might be available....
