OK, for those who get their LOs printed into a photobook.....
How do you handle all of the pages? Do you try to use only one kit for the entire book? Only kits from the same general color group? Do you not care about coordinating the pages and just worry about each LO all on its own? Could you tell me what you do AND WHY you do it that way? I am trying to plan another photo book and can't decide how I feel about all of the above. Thanks for the input! |

For me, it depends on the book that I'm doing.
If it's for a specific project (such as whenever I get around to doing my wedding album) I coordinate as much as possible. I did this for our guestbook for the wedding by just pulling together 5 or 6 kits that worked well together, and doing whatever felt right. For books that are just there to get my pages printed out somewhere, I just do whatever I want. I scrap what I want, when I want, without rhyme or reason, so there is zero chance that my albums will be neatly organized and have coordinating 2 page spreads. All that matters is that the memories are scrapped and together. No one other than yourself is going to care 1 iota whether or not the left page coordinates with the right page. To avoid burying myself under more pressure to "make it perfect", I remind myself that no one else on EARTH is going to care whether or not my journaling is straight, my papers look perfect, or my elements are placed according to a certain rule. No one. I do this hobby for FUN, and if I stress about any of that mess, it's not fun. So I don't do it, and I enjoy this hobby, and everyone in my life enjoys seeing our memories get recorded. THAT is the important part of the process for me. Just get those memories recorded, the rest is inconsequential.

I'm the same as Col... depending on the project. For my vacation album (still a work in progress)... I'm doing both double facing pages using the same kit, however, each set is different depending on what part of the vacation I'm scrapping. For my wedding and pregnancy album, I used the same kit all through out... through in bits and pieces from other kits that matched. Then for my book of favorite layouts, then all the pages are their own kit. I love the randomness of it and the kit as well as the journal and photos help tell the story. So I guess I just comes down to personal preference... hope that helps!

I always do 2 page spreads because I love for facing pages to match.
I did a wedding album using the same kit and I think it's boring now! I think I would do what Col did and use a handful of kits that would work well together, if I did it again. I also found it hard to use the same kit and make the pages look different enough--but that's just me! |

For the albums I do, the pages that face, match.
You can look here and see like 20 albums if you want that I've done. http://southernmamamisplaced.typepad...terfly-albums/ |

I am doing a vacation photobook - it has double-page spreads, each designed with different kit, to match the photos. I try to keep clean lines and simplify decoration to cluster in the corner of pages. You can check my gallery for inspiration

They are both an example of different approaches: 1. One consists of 1-pagers, done with different styles and kits and with an emphasis on the visual approach (no journalling). 2. The other consist of 2-pagers, this time with emphasis on journalling, but the styles are varied again. I'm also working on a vacation album with an emphasis on the photos, very graphic style kind of thing, and attempting a "unity of style" for a change. To summarise - I think it's fun doing it differently each time. There is no right or wrong way. Whatever you do is right as long as you have fun!

All the photo books I have done have been themed around vacations or a specific topic. I used one kit and pulled in other items if the kit didn't have all the paper, elements or fonts I needed. I did not always do 2 page layouts for facing pages, but I did make sure that the pages looked all right together (if that makes sense) when I was putting it together. I like the continuity that using the same kit gives. You do have to pick a versatile kit .... Good luck!

How many pages can you get in a 'photo book'?

Depends on who you go with. Shutterfly 100 pages, Viovio.com 160 pages for an 8.5x8.5, that's what size I print.
I think artscow like 40 pages. |
