Default Game of Thrones (HBO)

So we've been seeing the previews for this on HBO and it looks like it will be awesome...has anyone read the series that it's based on? I'm thinking I may start reading them...

I picked the first one up at the used bookstore the other day and put it back down. I just can't get into an epic book series right now. LOL

DH and his bros have. It is that fantasy style that they love. All three are very excited for this series to start up and we will probably get HBO just for this.

George R.R. Martin is a really respected writer of the genre.

Yep, I've read them all - well, the ones that he's finished anyway. He's a very thorough and sloooow writer. It's been a lot of years since the most recent book came out!

I like them, they're well written, but very intense, shocking and really quite gruesome in places. I'm actually quite intrigued to see how on earth they've managed to turn it into a screenplay actually, there are so many character storylines, so much detail and some stuff that they'd never be able to show!

Now I'm wondering if the show'll actually get picked up here!

meee!!! except for what has not been finished and I am beginning to thing it never will have an ending (at least bookwise....sigh) I LOVED them. I do think you have to bie "into" that style of detailed reading though to appreciate the books because of the thoroughness of the writing.
