Default You never know one minute...

what you'll be doing the next

DH is 2 hrs away hunting..last night I went into our small half bath and stepped in water...found out the valve that connects the toilet to the wall had a slow drip..so I packed it with towels and got up several times during the night to refill bowls that I had catching the water...this morning i called my dad to come look at it b/c he's usually able to fix things like that...he came (with my mom) and as soon as he touched it water started GUSHING out...like bucketfuls of water pouring into the hallway, all over the kitchen..everywhere...Daddy ran the 1/2 mile down to the main water line to shut it off and couldn't get it..meanwhile I get the water company on the phone and told him I had an EMERGENCY..thank the Good Lord he made it here in 5 minutes and got the water shut off for us..but my bathroom, small hallway, kitchen and part of my bedroom got flooded with about an inch of water...thankfully my mom and I managed to mop it up pretty quickly so I don't think there's any permament damage but oh my word!!! What a mess and thank goodess the water man got here as quickly as he did b/c if he hadn't my entire downstairs would have flooded. We have hardwood, so at least no soaking carpets.

Turns out the city (who cut down our trees near the road to pave the road and then DIDN'T pave the road) buried our water line when they grated off where the trees had been and the line my Daddy was trying to turn off wasn't even ours..it's connected to the Legion Hut that's about 4 miles away!!!

Sooo..needless to say...drama in my house this morning lol...DH is on his way home but by the time he gets here he'll be of no use b/c I've already got everything cleaned up lol.

Today I'm thankful for quick acting water men

lol..I was pretty much flipping out when the water was gushing..I didn't know WHAT we were going to do...we had soaked through every towel in my house in like 2 minutes...thankfully my Dad had brought his shop vac so we got that going pretty quickly..he had tried to turn off the water before he touched it but couldn't get it...

after the crisis was over though it was a pretty easy fix and we didn't even have to call a plumber...

just not the way I wanted to start my day for sure..and now I'll spend all day washing...we even used blankets and old clothes to block the water from our living room...

wow lots of drama this morning for you Nikki!! Glad it was an easy fix though. We do not have city water here so for us it as easy as walking to our well and turning it off there. We also have shut off valves on anything which uses water (water heater, tub, toilet, bath and kitchen sink) so if it leaks at one particular thing it can be stopped quickly

We have shut off valves too..it's just that's what was broken on the toilet so as soon as my Daddy touched it it just fell apart and that's where the water was gushing from. He said it's a wonder it didn't flood during the night...which thank goodness that didn't happen..

Oh ok I see...yes good thing it did not flood at night. We had a small flood a few years back when our hot water heater sprung a leak so my husband put shut off valves on everything with water LOL but yea if it is the valve I guess that wont be of much help!!

Oh and I would be pretty irate at the people who did the work on the road!! They seem like they arent to bright from what you have said about them clearing the trees and then now covering your line?

ETA:Oh that reminded me the water heater was not the first flood we had in our house. My husband put in a new kitchen sink when we first got married and forgot to glue the pipes annd they came apart when he was testing the water!! Water was spraying all over our kitchen!

Weird...I have a similar story from last night...our water heater sprung a leak! I went down into the basement and stepped into water...It was such an ordeal getting it all cleaned up, now we are waiting on the plumber...

Glad you got it all fixed!!! My dd flooded the bathroom by overfilling the toilet yesterday--but that was an easy cleanup--it still took a TON of towels, just for the bathroom... so I can't even imagine it going other places!!!

The back of our water heat literally burst open in our old house. I thought the kids had knocked something over (like a dresser it was so loud) and came down to gushing water everywhere! It was just about spraying on an outlet too.. very scary!
