Default Bedrest... :(

Well, it's official. I'm on bedrest. At the very minimum, it will be until Thursday, but at the most, it could be the rest of my pregnancy.

I had some SERIOUS discharge this morning and they thought maybe I was leaking amniotic fluid, so I was sent up to the hospital. Good news is, no fluid leak. Bad news is, apparently my blood pressure was sky-high. They sent me home to be on bedrest. If I return my urine tomorrow and it's not good, they'll keep me at the hospital. If it's okay, they'll send me home and keep me on bedrest until Thursday when I see the doctor... she'll decide from there if I need to extend the bedrest, or just go back to things as usual.

Blah. Oh well, at least Zach's okay...

Oh good luck!
They had me on bedrest (in the hospital) for about a week before my son. I had pre-eclampsia, no fun but sticking to the bedrest is definitely best for baby and mommy!

I was supposed to be on bedrest with my middle child but I had an almmost 2 year old to take care of so it was hard to actually stay in bed. She spent alot of time in bed with me though. Hope everything goes well for you and things get back to normal on Thursday....I dont see your ticker anymore but you should be getting pretty close to the time period where they consider it safe to deliver right?

Yup. It's totally safe for me to deliver now- I'm almost to 37 weeks, and the doctor said it was okay from here on out. But, they're hoping not to have to bring him out early if he CAN keep cooking.

Hugs!

Look on the positive side... so much time to scrap!!!!! Well, I guess if you don't have a computer in your bed... but it isn't literal bedrest, right? You could rest at the desk with your feet up and mouse in hand?

Just take care of yourself. We don't need you having high BP. Deep breaths and relaxation are key!

Oh good luck! I'll send positive thoughts.

I had almost the same issue with Kennedy...minus the discharge. My blood pressure was sky high and they had me do the 24 hr urine thing with bedrest and my urine came back ok. However my blood pressure just kept going up and up so they told me they were going to induce at my last dr appt which was a Friday. We induced Monday morning and she was born at 11:13pm Monday night.

Good luck! I spent the last 1.5 weeks of my pregnancy on bedrest. I was surprised by how sore I got just laying around all the time. My son was born the day they said I could come off the bedrest though, so I know for sure it works.

Hugs!! I spent 5 days on bedrest before I got such a bad headache that they had me come in for a stress test... and J was born the next day.

Lots of scrapping and movie watching time... and take the time to sleep!! LOL!

Good Luck, sweetie!

Glad the babah is ok! I did bed rest forever and then some in the hospital. Keep on your left side as much as you can. You can catch up on some scrapping or reading. Or TV! Keep us posted!

Sending you lots of positive vibes! Speaking from experience...stay put. It may seem like torture, but it's the absolute best thing for your little one. Every extra day of "cooking" will help him tremendously. You've made it so far already- good luck!!

Thanks for the prayers and positive thoughts, ladies!

Yup, I've got my laptop, so I can always scrap in bed... if I actually get some mojo. I've had it for days, and OF COURSE the day I get bed rest I'm just... blah. Lol.

My doctor did say I could leave bed and sit in the sunroom with family, if I kept my legs up the whole time and was truly resting, not getting up and around to do things. So, I was able to spend some time with family tonight, and even sit on our front deck with my legs up to watch fireworks. She's calling it a "modified" bed rest.

Otherwise, though, most of the time (at least 6 hours of the day) needs to be spent ACTUALLY in bed (outside of sleep time).

I'm just hoping for a positive result tomorrow so I can stay out of the hospital... lol.

The doctor says Zach sounds AWESOME, totally healthy and happy and active, so that's always a good thing. And they checked and I'm only 80% effaced, 1cm dialated, so it could be awhile before he gets here as long as there are no complications.

I went through almost the same thing as this with my first son. Rest as much as possible! I'll be thinking of you!

I wish you all the luck there is, Jenni, and at least the little one is ok.

One totally impertinent question - I was always wondering how do you pregnant ladies scrap in bed? With the belly and such? Forgive my out-of-place curiousness.

I have a little cooling pad that keeps my laptop cool, so I set it on that on the bed, and lay on my side. I use a laptop to scrap anyway, so I'm used to not using a mouse... the doctor prefers I lay on my side anyway, so I just lay on my side and scrap that way.

Thanks for answering my curious question! I use a laptop as well, but it's always in my, well, lap, so I had hard time imagining it with baby belly. Now I'm wiser. :-)

Good luck! Bed rest sucks but it will soon be over and your Zach will here. I was on bed rest from 18 weeks on with my Zach (pre-term labour with an incompetant cervix) and then again from 30 weeks on with my Jakey. Definitely not fun or easy but looking back, it went by quickly!

I'm really really really really frustrated with the hospital right now.

They told me to have someone drive me up there to return my 24-hour urine, and that they'd check my blood pressure and everything else when I brought it back, test the urine, and tell me whether or not they were admitting me tonight or sending me home.

Instead, I took the lab up to the 3rd floor (where the prenatal unit is, and where they told me to bring it). The nurses looked at me confusedly, handed me some labels, and said "Okay, take this down to the first floor lab and then go home and we'll call you tonight and let you know if you need to be admitted." I asked, "You guys mentioned yesterday you'd take my BP and everything today... is that not still the plan?" "Well, I don't have anything saying that we're supposed to...." And then they said, "Well, just take it down there, go home, we'll call you tonight. You may have to come back up and be admitted." I said "I live 35 minutes away. So you had me get a ride ALLLL the way up here, so I can leave here, get a ride ALLLLL the way home, and then get a ride ALLLLL the way back if you decide to admit me?" "Yes." One nurse asked where I lived, and I said my town, and she said "I live there, too. It's not a long drive. You'll be fine."

Um. Snot much?

Anyway, we dropped the lab off, and the lady said I'd have a call within an hour. It's been nearly 2 hours, and no call. I'm sorry, but even if it's a negative result, I'd kind of like to know. The stress of it is going to send my BP up if nothing else! UGHHHHH!!!

Sorry.

/rant. Lol.

Ugh, that sucks! Def not good for the high blood pressure, I'm sure!

Sending prayers that everything works out okay. I was on bedrest for five weeks with my DD, so I can empathize. Hugs!!

Okay, I finally just called in and said "Listen, not giving me answers is stressing me out a lot. So... answers. Please. Either way." They finally let me know that my results looked borderline good, so they wanted me to keep bedresting until my appointment Thursday, and then they'd decide then whether or not I'm staying on bedrest, or if I can go back to normal function... since my doctor will know my case a little better than the ER nurses will.
