Default are you...

a pessimist or an optimist?

I lean towards being an optimist. My husband is a pessimist. It makes life interesting, that's for sure.

Day to day I'm pretty optimist... but if something goes south, I believe the worst thing possible has happened!! My hubby - total optimist - drives me nuts! And really ironic since his WHOLE family are pessimists (no gray area with them!)

I'm definitely a pessimist, I have been for as far back as I can remember. I can't find good in anything, and I drive myself nuts sometimes. I can just imagine how much it gets on other people's nerves. I really try not to be like that, but it's hard. It's funny, both my mom and my dad are not like this at all, so I can't say it's a learned trait!

Pessimist in the sense that I see that thing can get wrong. I don't count on it, but I see that's it's likely. That said, I tend to be disappointed when things go wrong, because somewhere deep down I believe for the best. However, chronic optimists drive me crazy, LOL. ;-)

LOL I used to think that, Laura - but the thought of DH actually freaking out scares me. If something were so bad that DH freaked..I'd lose it. He's my rock...even if it bugs me to no end

OMG!!! TOTALLY US!

For instance...when Derek was sick and in the hospital....and they wanted to test for this and that...I was FREAKING out and DH just sat there...never said much. But he knows that if he acts worried or shows any ounce of being worried or scared I will freak out even more. So....he has to remain calm and act uninterested just so his batty wife doesn't jump off the bridge! LOL

I'm in the grey. Depends on the situation. I try to be optimistic as much as possible...but I'm a Murphy so the worst is bound to happen. I probably tend to be more pessimist than I'd like to admit. lol

This is my hubby! His mom holds the crown for the most negative person I know. I on the other hand, am an optimist. I believe the best in people or the situation. (for the most part)

I'm an optimist... I would rather see the good in things and people and not dwell on the bad. But when things start going down hill I will avoid the truth and try to pretend that everything is going to be just fine. I'm not sure that's the best was to act. Lol.

I'm in the middle and so is DH - it depends on what it's about. My DH usually sees the worst in people so he's negative about that. But he doesn't freak out about anything bad that happens either.

My optimism/pessimism completely depends on my hormones. :P

both my husband and i are optimists - although we are realistic too - e.g., when something bad happens, we totally accept it and look at the bright side of whatever it is and just roll with it ...

Optimist concerning everything but our finances. LOL Patrick is a die hard pessimist. To him, everyone's evil and out to get him. sigh.

To use Kate's examples for Patrick:

Guy cut me off? Chase him down and kick his ass! he must have something against me personally!
Steal my parking spot? Gonna pull a 'Towandaaaaaaa" on his ass!!
DD spills milk all over the kitchen floor? You shall never have milk again!
Work piling up and looks like I'll never see the my desk? The bosses make me do all the work and everyone else gets paid for it!

LOL

Both me and my DH are optimists. Sometimes we have pessimistic moments, but luckily each of us in different areas of life, so one of us is always the supporter (and doesn't find it very difficult).

I used to think I was a pessimist... Until I met my husband! Boy, he's much worse than I am! I had to laugh with Traci's description of Patrick: totally how my hubby would react too! Compared to that, I could definitely be called an optimist!

I'm an optimist, but enough in the gray that I consider myself a realist. I generally think people are good and have hope that things will work out, but I can also tell when to prepare for the worst and accept that some people do not have others' best interests in mind. DH is a pessimist, but enough in the gray area that we can get along, LOL. It's only in medical issues that he goes to 100% pessimistic and I have to act 100% optimistic in response to keep him from going off the deep end.

What's interesting is that when it comes to the big picture, I'm an optimist and DH is a pessimist. But when it comes to the little things, I'm a worrier and DH isn't.

This was DH and I. I'm still an optimist - couldn't have survived the past 8-1/2 years if I wasn't. I am a realist though and not the kind of optimist who buries my head in the sand. If something needs to be dealt with I deal with it and move on, but always knowing it will get better. I just learned a long long time ago (right after having my first child, who is almost 24) that worrying about everything isn't going to fix it by a long shot, so why make myself sick over things that are out of my control. If they're in my control then fix it/deal with it/etc. I have a hard time dealing with negative people and can honestly say the people I'm close to are not pessimists.

I definitely lean way towards the pessimist side...I always think the worst and plan for the worst!! I think I do this because I think when the bad things happen then I've already been thinking it and felling it so I think then I can cope with it better!! I know....not healthy at all but I guard my heart very close and it's all I know!!

I'm a realist with optimistic tendencies. The glass is half full & somewhere around here is a whole pitcher with more in it. But sometimes I am fairly sure that pitcher is empty.

Usually when it comes to stuff to do with the house. I know it won't work out right, it never does, but a part of me feels it ought to work out right, that this is just an aberration, but somehow, things with the house never quite do.

Guy Cut me off: Oh well... maybe his wife just went into labour

I'm married to a complete pessimist though.

I'm totally an optimist; I think everything is always gonna work out...AND IT DOES! But my husband says that it does only because HE makes it work out, lol.

I used to say the glass is half-empty and evaporating. Does that tell you? LOL

But I really have been trying to work on it. More than anything I have come to realize that my worrying (my Dad is a worrier and my G-ma is a worrier) will not solve anything. I do try to find the main things to plan for/around, but then have learned to leave it in God's hands. Most days. I'm still a work in progress on that though.

My sister is the optimist. Her hubby is the more pessimistic one.
My hubby is the more optimist than me, but only slightly so.

I just say I'm a realist.
