Default Flying with a baby

Can I bring BOTH a stroller and car seat and have them checked at the gate for free as I'm boarding? Or can I only check one or the other? I'll be flying alone with my 3 month old tomorrow and I'm kinda stressed about it. If I have to carry him in his car seat through the airport along with our bags, my arms will fall off. If I can use his stroller (travel system) then I can relax a bit.

They should let you check both at the gate. Usually there is info on the airlines' website about flying with a lap child. I've found airlines to be very accommodating to mothers flying with babies. Take both and ask when you check in. If you are really worried you can check your car seat with the luggage for free (I think they have to by law) and use your sling. You'll only have to take him out when going through security. Depending on who you are flying with, they may even let you take the car seat and let you use it in an empty seat (we always try to fly Southwest for that reason). Feel free to call me (my number should show up on fb for you) if you have any last minute questions.

Try to give him a bottle or paci during take-off and landing to help with the pressure in his ears. We also try to sit in the back in case we need to stand up with the babe. Good luck! Flying with a newborn is a lot worse in your preparing mind than it actually ends up being.

If you can check the car seat as luggage early it might be easiest on you not having to drag it through security and the airport. Yes...you might have to pay though unless you fly on Southwest or another airline that lets you have two free bags. They have great zip around cases to put them in so they won't get damaged either.

I tried to be as "hands free" as I could going through the airport. If your dh is with you though, that's a completely different story! Let him carry it!
