Has anyone ever had something like this happen? Parker hasn't been himself lately. For like the last 3 days. He is extra whiney. He is extra belligerent. He isn't sleeping well at night. Getting up a lot, winding up in our room in the middle of the night. He is hitting. He is persistent about getting his way. But most of all, he is weepy. Crying a lot. And crying over little things. I took him to the doctor for an unrelated thing...he had a rash. While there he was tested for strep (negative). She looked in his throat (fine) and looked in his ears (tubes are fine). He has a clean bill of health pretty much. He does have a rash but we have a couple of creams for it.
So I feel like illness is out. I emailed his teacher. She said she had been out the last few days but she would talk with him. IDK what to do. I feel at a loss. |

You already ruled illness out, but for awhile, we thought Jeffrey was going through that phase- that he was just whiny, and crying, and very demanding. Turned out he had mono.

Another thought is that he has been out of sorts because his teacher has been out the past few days also. You'd be surprised how this can throw a kid off.

Has he had any new foods in the last few days? Could be a negative reaction to foods. Could be environmental - chemicals/pesticides/paint/whatever. My kids' behavior suffers greatly when they are exposed to foods and chemicals they're sensitive to.

My son's behavior changes like this when he gets anxious (he's a pretty high-anxiety kid). He also gets rashes from rubbing/scratching as a nervous habit. Often he can't even tell me the source of his anxiety, but we've been around the mountain enough now that I can recognize the signs. In our case, Jamin will also complain of stomach pains.

It seems funny that his teacher has been gone about the same amount of time he has been acting like this. Maybe it is bothering him to be someone different or maybe he just doesn't like this replacement teacher.

My first thought was strep. I wouldn't be surprised if the dr calls in a few days to tell you the longer culture is positive.
I teach pre-K special ed and my being gone can throw the whole room off balance. I hate being gone because I know it's harder on my paras and students, even if I have a good sub (and especially if I don't). I've had parents tell me their students don't want to go to school when I've been gone for more than one day. That could explain it... but I'm still betting he's sick.

Also don't forget it's been a full moon. That mixed with the teacher thing could be causing it all.

This was my thought exactly. My son had a new child in his classroom today and he's been totally off. Takes them totally out of their routine and comfort zone.

I'd bet on the teacher too. My oldest's favorite teacher at daycare started an internship about a week ago and isn't there until the late evening shift now. She's been having a really hard time adjusting. Poor kiddos! Hope he's much better soon!

If he's not sick, I might tend to agree it could be the teacher thing. That through my kid through a look his first year. But he's really started to get use to it.

Wait for the strep test (ours came back positives while their throats looked fine) to rule that completely out.
Also it sounds like things are just piling on top of each other. Change in the classroom means insecurity, means can't sleep well, means is tired and unable to control himself/emotions etc. Oh and he's little, so they can just be that way sometimes too! Be patient, be consistent as possible and be loving (I know you are)! And yes he might has strep even though he shows no immediate signs, so wait to confirm! Hugs girl! ![]()

has he had any issues with other kids? Could there be a sleep related problem? Maybe he is having nightmares and cannot sleep so he is extra cranky. I am also another one to check into the teacher thing.
