Default Anyone used Petsmart grooming?

and if so are they any good? I can't find a local groomer and my dog needs a proper hair cut..I've just been shaving him myself but honestly it's a pain and I'd rather just pay someone to do it.

I tried to use them once. My dog is a mini poodle who is a very hyper dog. He wouldn't hold still for them and they wouldn't trim him so they wouldn't hurt him. He got a bath and a nice bald spot for free though hehe.

I've heard pretty good things about them. An old classmate works for them and I used to take my ex boyfriend's dog there all the time to get his nails trimmed. I've never heard anything bad

I took our schnauzer there for a few years and was happy.

My MIL and SIL both took dogs there and never had anything bad to say about them, but I've never used them myself.

I think it all depends upon the groomer at a particular store. A friend of mine took her cocker spaniel in and instead of giving him the typical cocker cut (which she asked for), they literally shaved him bald, and knicked his skin in several places.

I think it depends on the groomer as well. We took one of our small dogs there to have her nails cut and even though our dog wasn't cooperating to the best of her ability (lol) the girl that was trying to cut her nails grabbed her collar, jerked her to lay on the table and yelled "I am just trying to cut your nails STUPID DOG!" Right in front of us!!! Needless to say we never went back there.

Oh my gosh that's awful!

I guess I'll give them a shot though..the only groomer I can find in my area isn't taking new clients..I guess b/c she's the only groomer in our area and totally swamped lol

I have never used them. Our dog is a keeshond and everything we have read about her it is recomended not to cut her fur (shave her). So we wash her about once a month and brush her everyday. Now we do shop at Petsmart and ours has open windows so you can see the grooming from inside the store and from outside the store.. Some vet's offer grooming as well so that might be a consideration for you. Maybe your vet offers it?

Our vet will only shave them. No grooming and they put the dog to sleep to do it. Its mostly for outside dogs who need their winter coats shaved. We used them for our cocker spaniel since he lived outside. The only groomer they recommended is the one I mentioned above. She really is like the only groomer in the county lol

We've used Petsmart here and haven't had any issues at all. But I think it totally depends on the groomer too. The groomers here are always super friendly and always treat my little dogs like their own. And they always come out with bows in their hair too, which makes me smile.

We used to take out cat there to get shaved. We had to go to the vet last year to have it done b/c Petco wouldn't take animals that had to be given happy pills to make them relax...which we had to give our 20 lb cat!!

I never had any issues with them...except for the one time I KNEW a groomer was talking about how matted my kitty was and called a few people over to look....it almost made me feel like I was a bad pet owner but my cat was 20 lbs and HATED to be groomed...I did the best I could.

I saw this article a couple weeks ago and the comments section really surprised and saddened me. There are a lot of people with very bad experiences with PetSmart grooming.

After reading this article, including the comments, I wouldn't go anywhere near a PetSmart. Luckily, I have a fur dog, and not a hair dog, so don't have to have her trimmed. But I am thinking of getting a Labra-doodle for our next dog.

If I didn't have a choice, I would insist on staying right there in the room while the dog is groomed to make sure there isn't any maltreatment.

I used to take my pug, Roscoe, there to get his nails trimmed. Roscoe was a wimp about having his nails trimmed and would squirm and howl whenever I tried to do them. The Petsmart groomer just looked at Roscoe and all his conniptions and said, "Hey, we won't be having any of that here" and Roscoe just sat there and let him do it. I couldn't believe it. It was totally the groomer though, because eventually he moved on and the subsequent groomer still had to wrestle Roscoe to trim his nails.

I have been taking my dog there for 3 years and had one problem with one groomer who did a horrible job. We complained and the manager asked us to bring her back when it grew out some and she would personally groom her and it was wonderful! She is the only groomer there I let touch my dog. I think it will be just a matter of finding which ones working there are good.
