Default Lets talk Albums...what kind are you using?

I really want to get the We R Memory Keeper 8.5 x 11 leather ones...

seems like i'm doing a few more 8.5 x 11 layouts and the 8x8 ones can go in the same book!??? Right!

Saw some 12x12 at a local store and like the feel and look of the leather ones....
but would love some suggestions on what colors look best (or worst) in person....

Here is a link to them ....

can I add a question....

how many different albums do you have???

working on Stacy Julian's Library of Memories class and have been for months now doing the "category" system....

right now a book for bella and one for Ethan (todd and I will share a book sicne we have soo few layouts for just us (and extended family will be included in this book too)!

the rest of them....this is the plan I think..... =)
one for places (far and near)
--aka vacations, fun spots/things around town/neighborhood

I would love a book for just house stuff
---old house we built a shed
---buying new house
---alll that comes w/ that (new backyard, new fence, new deck), painting projects

etc....
these are atleast the few thigns I know I want....

I only have like 2 lo's printed, lol. I totally spaced and missed the sale at scrapbook pictures last night. I'm probably going to print 8x8. I like Meg's idea to put them on a white border, and use the 8.5x8.5 albums.

My paper scrapping albums are almost all 12x12. I love 12x12.

That sounds really neat, I never thought about doing an album for some of those things..... I have so many layouts done but have yet to print any of them so I don't know what I would do. Most of them are 12 x 12 so I would probably resize them to 8 x 8 for printing/pricing reasons. I do, however prefer the leather/faux leather look of albums for the most part...

I use the 8x8 American Crafts Modern Albums. Right now, I have a HUGE backlog of layouts to be printed (Im just up to date with prints this year!) so they are all in one album. I plan to do the album methodology of Stacy though.

I have two albums done from Shutterfly - and that's themed ones, Christmas, First Year of the kids, etc etc.

I want variety is my layouts though, I plan to have 11x8 and 6x12 soon.

I want to make a vacations book and get it printed at shutterfly. I've got Cabo San Lucas, Vegas, and Florida last August to scrap still. Oy. LOL!

Other than that, I break my LO's up (at least my paper lo's) into those about Tiger, and those about the rest of us. I have 1 vacation album done of our trip to Hawaii and SanFran in '05.

Oh Kim, I so want this too - we are moving to a second home (second place we will live in as a family) and I want to record the houses we lived in as a family!

Aggie, are these expandable? I'm a chronological girl. But I don't want 15 books for a one year time. The Pioneer Albums I've been getting aren't handling the stress I'm putting on them LOL Right now, I use 2 8x8 albums for a year. So I'm trying to find a GOOD album that can expand either with screw posts or pioneer straps that won't fall apart. I've been thinking about investing in Close to My Heart albums, but if the American Craft ones are good and expandable, I might go that route, instead.

Well, they are 3inged expandable albums and with 80 layouts printed it is still very very flat, so I guess yes?

I'm planning on using the American Crafts Cloth Albums. I'm going with the 3ing 8.5x11 albums so I can put both my 8.5x11 and 8x8 pages in the same album. I'm currently taking Stacy's Library of Memories class so at the end I should end up with 4 main albums - All About Us, People We Love, Places We Go and Things We Do. I'd also like to start doing mini albums and an album about our year in Korea.

One question, do any of you print photos just for photo albums? I haven't printed photos at all since I went digital and I'm realizing that since I don't really scrap event-type photos all that much that a lot of the photos won't really be seen. Anyone do this?

My first album was from Creative Memories and that was 10 years ago. My second album is from Stampin' Up! and I've still got some room.

I use 12x12's too!!

(haven't either for Stacy's class since I digi scrap...confused there as to what I should do w/ all my current printed photos...

I really want to buy Stacy's Photo Freedom book. Is that what that class you're taking is based upon? Or is it based upon her Big Picture book?

it is based on both technically...her new book is way more detailed on HOW she does it...her first book just talked about her albums I thought
the new book PHOTO FREEDOM is basically the class....but the class is more detailed, lots of one on one etc....

buy the book and it will give you a great idea what we are talking about...
I think well worth the $$$

I'm still not sure what the best plan is for adapting the system for digi. I did ask Stacy about it and she recommended mimicking the system digitally as much as possible. She also said that printing 5-10% of the photos might be a good idea so people can at least enjoy them.

I think my plan at this point is to just put any pre-digital photos I have printed into albums and label them so if I want to go back and find them I can. I had debated about scanning the photos I wanted to scrap but I think for now I'm just going to hold off on that and see if it's something I really need to do. I do think for the category files I might scan those photos though so that all the categories can be found in one place. Course I guess some of that will depend on how many photos I'd need to scan. I don't know, I tend to get stuck when trying to figure out how to adapt everything - I wish there was a little more guidance for us non-paper scrappers.

It's based on both I think. The Big Picture book is kind of the overview where the Photo Freedom book she keeps referring to as a kind of textbook for the class. My understanding is the class is quite a bit more detailed than the book though.

I was planning on just doing Shutterfly books b/c it seemed cheaper that way.

The downside is that I can't change the order of stuff or add layouts once the book is printed . . . hmm. Or do hybrid things to them should I ever go down that road . . .

The We R Memory Keepers and American Craft albums look very nice.

Hmm, so much to ponder . . .

I love Chatterbox albums for my "paper" scrapped pages because I believe the pages are a little oversized so the fit is not as tight as some albums.

I print out almost all of my digital LOs. I usually make my digital LOs as 12 x 12 so I could print them that way if they are really phenomenal and I want them that big. I genrally print everything as 8x8 on an 8.5 x 11. I started out putting them in artist portfolios, which are nice and skinny, but don't look very pretty. Now I pick up inexpensive faux leather albums at Hobby Lobby when they have big sales.

I have this same problem... what has helped me is that I do slideshows to music and burn them on DVD... that way everybody enjoys watching them and they don't take up space!!!!

I have so many pages and I haven't printed out one!!! - I have to soon - I started an encyclopedia of an ordinary life and one for my mothers 60th birthday this summer - This will be my first printing and I need expandable books for both - I think I am going to stick to the 12x12 LO's - any suggestions on a good expandable one?

i scrap at 8x8. always. mostly cause there's never enough room to actually keep a 12x12 scrapbook. lol.
but i have a couple ColorBok (?) 8x8 books that i bought at an LSS a couple years back. the fabric covered ones. i think they're called 'the perfect scrapbook'?
i do have a 6x6 that i plan on using to make a coffee table book with new house pages. or maybe i'll use it to do do a family scrapbook. i haven't decided.
i want to try the shutterfly 8.5x11 books. they look like they're really nice.

I've got about 8 albums sitting here without a single page in ANY of them, lmao...they're all 8x8.

I've got...

Chatterbox Corduroy 8x8 albums (chocolate and denim colors)
All My Memories Urban Chic 8x8 albums (brown leather-ish)
2 Disney albums - 1 Cinderella (pink) and 1 Mickey (black)...both are 8x8 and are for our trip...one for each of the kids!
Maya Road 8x8 binder album

I really want to get some of the American Crafts Modern albums with the Dings in it instead of post-bound. But they're really hard to find! LOL!
