Default BLIZZARD - who else is preparing?

Uggh, so we're getting the BIG ONE this weekend. We haven't had a snowstorm this big up our way for a couple years really and I wish it would just blow out to sea, but it's looking like there's no chance of that. I know Megan (glumirk) must be preparing and Celeste (down in CT I think?) Who else is going to get dumped on?

Everyone stay SAFE!! Hopefully you won't lose power, and you'll still be able to check in here.

You should all just come here - it's supposed to be in the 70s all weekend. Stay safe everyone! Hopefully it won't be too bad!

I went to the store yesterday, so we should be set. I guess I should turn up the heat in case we lose power.

DH had his appendix removed a week ago, so I was prepping to be able to use our snow blower, but some friends from church offered to help us.

I find with these storms that as long as you stay inside you are ok. We lost power for 3 days during Snowtober, so that wasn't much fun, but we were safe and when we got too cold we just bunked with some friends for the last night.

I'm from southern AZ, so snow is still exciting for me. I try not to get too worried until something actually happens. We will buy a generator eventually. We don't live in the sticks, so our power usually comes back quickly. It's all up to the storm now.

I hope everyone stays safe and warm!

It varies depending on where you are. Where I am is predicted to get the least at about 18 inches. My cousin down in Hartford, CT could get up to 28 inches. The winds are what is going to be a problem for us because we live in a very wooded area (but not in the sticks actually). If we lose power we lose water too because we have a well so I've been putting up water in buckets for the toilet and we have our drinking supply brought in from the garage. Candles, flashlights, and lanterns are ready to go too. I'm fortunate to have a gas stove/oven so we can cook and it will provide a source of heat also. We just got back from the grocery store to stock up on snacking foods and Redbox movies so we're good to go. The car is snug in the garage and we're snug in the house and won't even open the door until it's all over!

We're supposed to get 35-45cm here in central Nova Scotia! Ick! As long as our power doesn't go out, we'll be okay.

Be safe, everyone! I grew up in CT and went to college in Boston, and I always loved snow. We had a measly 1.5 inches here in the DC area this year and about the same last year. My parents are in CT and my brother and sister are in NYC, so they're all getting hit. My parents don't live in the sticks or anything, but their power company is terrible. I think they've lost power for a week or more 3 times in the last 2 years.

We only got a few (3-5) inches here, but it was enough to cause a lot of accidents. Stay safe where it's expected to hit hard!

Hee hee. I should probably not say that we are having the same sort of gorgeous weather here. Except it's 75 and SUNNY!

We are supposed to get 18-24". Our state is in a "state of emergency", but really that just means hunker down and stay home through the storm.

I'm jealous of your gas stove, Marie! We have to pull out our grill if the power goes out. We do have (cold) water through the storms though.

I'm curious what will happen over night. So far we have about 6".

It's over us right now here in Vermont. It's been pretty windy all day. We're getting less snow accumulation than forecasted though We were in between the 12-18" and 18-24", so far we only have about 1-2"

We are supposed to get hit with a blizzard on Sunday. Not the same as your storm and much smaller, but the problem is, I still have to get to work no matter what the weather is like and I drive a small car.

I'm kinda sad it missed us! We got two inches last night, and it all melted today! I have a friend in Boston, and they are expecting 2 feet! Stay warm and safe!

I'm in the Boston area and it's still quite nasty out. I'd say we've got about a foot already but, with all the blowing and drifting, it's hard to tell...and we're still in the worst of it for another few hours yet. The wind has been really strong,

I put together this series of photos of my sisters car from this afternoon through tonight. I'm almost afraid of what its going to look like in the morning.

We are taking a bit of a pounding. The coast is getting a lot of flooding and there are some cities and towns completely without power. I think the number's up to over 300,000 without power right now and we're still in the worst of it.

For the first time in 35 years, the governor's issued an executive order banning traffic on all roads. That hasn't happened since the Blizzard of '78 which, ironically, was 35 years ago this week (Feb 6-7). Honestly, we really didn't a need a repeat of that.

I haven't left the house all day. When I heard yesterday that the public transportation was going to be shutting down at 3:30, I decided I didn't want to deal with the hassle of the commute home. I'm glad I didn't 'cause, from what I've heard, it was really bad. The farthest I've gone outside today was to the front gate to open it. Otherwise, with the way the snow's drifting, it would have never opened tomorrow.

Yeah, yeah, LOL - my parents called yesterday to let me know that it is almost 80 down where they are in Florida. I told them not to call again until they got home in March!

It didn't really start snowing much here until after 9 pm last night and this morning I can barely see across my yard because it's snowing and blowing so hard that it's a white out. We are in for the day - went to the market yesterday afternoon and got plenty of snacking food for Cheyanne and some new movies from the Redbox. We still have power, internet, and even our dish is still working. I'm actually supposed to be working and need to get started.

ETA: Just saw snowfall totals for southern Maine and Gorham has 32.2 inches! And it's still snowing some there!
