Default I hate the fact...

that my kids won't sleep in over the weekend! Don't they know they're supposed to catch up on the sleep they didn't get during the school week?? Instead, half the time they get up even earlier than they do on a school day, then proceed to gripe and yell at each other for the first two hours they are up because they are still tired and cranky This morning, they spent an hour griping about who was going to put the milk up after they had bowls of cereal.

Same here. And my 8 year old for some reason woke up at 4:30 this morning and would not go back to sleep so I finally put him in the bed with me b/c I was afraid he was going to wake up his sister upstairs. He then talked and tossed and turned for a solid hour in the bed with me. DH is away hunting this weekend so he missed out. He finally went back to sleep but woke up again at 6:30.

This is the same child I have to drag out of the bed during the week to get up for school.

I'm fortunate that my kids totally sleep in on the weekends and even when they don't, they are content to go downstairs, get something to eat and watch TV until either my husband or I get up.

My (almost) 8 year old is usually up by 7:30 on the weekends. He has to get up at 6:30 during the week, so he is sleeping in a little. My 11 year old slept until 10:00 this morning when I finally woke her to watch her brother while I went to a meeting (my husband was upstairs sleeping, so they weren't home alone). She will sleep till noon if we let her. He is the one who is so hard to wake during the week though. He would get up on his own if he could sleep till 7. That extra half hour makes him miserable, but I have to be to work by 7:15 and since I work at his school that means he has to be there early too.

I still sleep in every weekend. My kids don't wake me up and they can handle things on their own for a few minutes. We have an alarm system so I don't worry about them too much. They get cereal or poptarts or french toast that I have made and frozen ahead of time and watch TV or play at the computer until someone gets up with them.

Yes! I have one with an inverted Circadian rhythm (a sleep disorder) who is up before 5 every day and then needs to nap in the afternoon. The other 2 would sleep in a little, but weekends for them can mean anything from waking up earlier than for school to sleeping an hour later. But at least it's better than it used to be--now sometimes DH and I get to stay in bed until 8 am on the weekend! (This from someone who used to be up until 4 am and sleep until noon on the weekends pre-kids.)

I only get one, maybe two, weekends a month off, so I taught mine that if he wakes up before me, he can stay in his room and play or watch TV, but he is not to wake me up. I never sleep later than 8:30 anyway, but at least I get to. It's so nice.

I just wish I could sleep in on the weekends! I try, but after waking up at 4:30/5:00 am every week morning, I just cannot make myself sleep. My kids are usually awake around 6:30/7:00, so I'm not complaining...I just need some quiet time to myself and I'm usually okay.

How old are they? Maybe you could start training them to fend for themselves so you can sleep in on the weekends???

They do fend for themselves. Problem is, I end up awake anyway because they are bickering! Lol. Or, they will come and ask me stupid things while I'm still in bed. Like I'm really going to "buy" them an app at 7 am when they know I want to be sleeping?? That's mainly my 5 year old, although the 7 year old is guilty of it, too. Maybe I just need a bigger house so I can be further removed from the noise
