Hey, scrappy peeps! I'm planning for my 45th birthday party in January and wanted to pick your brain about it.
I'm throwing it at a local coffeehouse/venue which is way cheaper than everywhere else in town because there's no alcohol allowed. I will provide snacks & drinks and there will be a 90s theme (dress-up costumes/clothes encouraged) but I need to know what people DO at grown-up birthday parties if they're not drinking or dancing. It's in January in the Midwest so we can't be outside. Have you thrown your own party or been to someone else's recently? Should there be retro games? Just play some music and hope for the best? Plan on people standing around awkwardly talking and wishing they were anywhere else?! ![]() |

I had a big party for my 30th. It was at my mom's and basically it was just eating and talking, so I don't have any suggestions.
The pandemic ruined my 50th as far as a big celebration, but even then, I'm guessing it would have been eating and talking. Oh, and no alcoholic beverages here either. |

Maybe you can do a pub quiz with trivia about the '90s?
Or think about family games, but extra large (like Twister, but on a huge scale, or Monopoly where every team has 1 person walking on the playing board on the ground). Good luck with all the preparations!

I threw myself a Welcome Home from Deployment/I Turned 40 in a Dry Country party. lol I had tons and tons of food and we just ate and talked but that probably worked best because I had not been around anyone in 7 months. Other adult birthday parties have just been food & drinks. It would be fun to have karaoke or trivia or lots of board games.
