Default Wireless router recommendations

I have a Linksys router currently, and I'm having so much trouble with it. The power cord is acting funky, and I lose connection frequently. I have had it for a couple of years.

After downloading all my CT stuff, and my birthday goodies (I hit a few shops LOL), over HALF of it was corrupt! I know it's my router, and I had to go back and redownload a ton of it (which I'm still doing). I'm ticked!

So what do you all use for your router? I liked my Linksys originally, but this is making me nuts!

we did have a Netgear. but it wasn't working right so we got back our Linksys one from MIL and its working fine. i don't know of any other ones out there but i'm sure there are a lot. DH shops on line at Newegg.com for all his electronic/computer needs. they are pretty cheap on some things. and i think the customers rate the products too so you can go from that on which one is the best.

We have a Netgear router and have no troubles with it at all. My dad has a Linksys router too and since I have been staying with them I have had the same troubles, lose connection and I had to have SMJ reset my order the other day several times because every single time it kept coming up corrupt files. I am off to buy my dad a Netgear router.

We love our Linksys... it replaced an older Linksys. We had the last one for at least 5 years before it started giving us trouble (had to reset it like once a week or so). No issues with the new one. I think the other one was just worn out.

Good luck with your shopping decision!

I have a Buffalo and had no probs with it (like it better than the Netgear we used to have) but it looks like there's some sort of legal thing going on and Buffalo is not selling them right now.

My dad's giving me his laptop, which i hope to have sooner than later . I know nothing about setting up routers. I want to work with it away from the desk. So, I'm guessing that one needs a router for this. Would I be better off having my isp set it up for me? Like I said, I know nothing about this, so whatever your "easy" is, it probably won't be for me,lol.
I like to plan ahead for stuff like this, cause I hate surprises

Ours is also a Belkin (paid like $35 for it I think), we've had it for about 2-3 years now with absolutely no problems!

Us too - and aboslutely love it! Have had Linksys, and Netgear in the past, and while those were great, I'm now fully committed to D-Link. Not for newbies, though, but Jamie, you should have no problem!

I have a Netgear but right now use the one the cable company gave us. We can't figure out how to use my router and the cable box together.

We have a Linksys and love it. The only times it's given us troubles is when the settings were off. Once the settings were fixed (our fault), we had no problems.

I've always used Linksys and never had any problems with it. Now that we are on Verizon Fios, we use the router that they provide and it works great.

I hope you have better luck with a new one!

We have had a Linksys for over 5 years with no problems. I think these things do wear out over time though. Good luck Jamie...I hope you get it solved soon.
