Default Music brings back memories

Hahaha ok so a cover of "I Ran" just came on my ipod and I can't help but giggle. It reminds me SO MUCH of a summer (that seems a million years ago) that I was together with a guy and he and his friends LOVED to play Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Since it was a separate input, they would change the tv channel when they wanted to play TV and just left the game running at all times. And the soundtrack to that game is all hysterical 80's tunes, lol. Now it reminds me of Guitar Hero too (80's edition for PS2 - I LOVE IT).

And before that, "Collide" by Howie Day came on, which reminds me of a guy from college. Honestly brings tears to my eyes almost every time.

So. What music brings back a funny memory for you? Or a sad one.

I music

Hmmm... I usually attach songs to people. Anything by Earth, Wind and Fire reminds me of my Dad... Old Michael Jackson (Like Beat It, Thriller, Man in the Mirror) reminds me of my mom, because she used to workout to that music when I was young. Dave Matthews reminds me of my DH, because we are both huge fans and have a lot of fond memories from their concerts.

Smell is another thing that reminds me of people A LOT! I attach certain smells to certain people... like my one grandfather was peppermint, because he loved those little spearmint leaf candies. The other grandfather is Obsession cologne for men.

Music plays an important part in all of my memories....

But I had a flashback to 7th grade yesterday LOL We went out to lunch with my best friend yesterday to a little Japanese restaurant that was playing a weird radio station. Shadow Dancing by Andy Gibb came on, and I flashed hard back to my room. The one year I ever bought Tiger Beat magazine..the one year I ever cared about boy celebrities much and put pics of them on my wall. The one year that I was all about Leif Garrett and Andy Gibb and Sean Cassidy and all those boys. It was such a weird feeling LOLOL

Oh man... anything from the 80s is a HUGE memory conjerer. I love George Michael and Bon Jovi. Anything by Duran Duran... gosh, I loved all sorts of music... but it's the 80s stuff that really takes me back.

My mom was huge into oldies, stuff by Elvis, The Beach Boys, The Beatles and anything they played on the Oldies station, so I swear I know the words to EVERY song from the 50s and 60s. LOL

Now, any time I hear Neil Diamond I get sorta sad. I absolutely love his voice, but my mom use to listen to him during a really hard time in our lives, so my brain just automatically associates his voice with sadness.

Music is almost always about memories for me! Some 80's memories: J Geils Band "Freeze Frame" and "Centerfold" - trips with my Dad driving, especially just the two of us, and we'd be singing at the top of our lungs. B52's " Rock Lobster" - school dances starting when I was in 7th grade, and yes we'd actually do all the moves. Billy Squier "Stroke" and "My Kind of Lover" - my BFF and I spending much of our summers at Hopeville Pond. Aerosmith's "Lightning Strikes" - my first encounter with watching MTV. And The Police's "Invisible Sun" - my BFF and I dealing with our first "monthly friend" experiences (my BFF changed the lyrics up about the subject).

Honestly Col, I think I can remember a moment, a time, a memory for just about any song that comes on.

Oh yes, Col, this is a topic I could post abt for hours and hours...

I tend to take certain songs playing at certain times as messages from God. For example, when I hear the 3 or 4 songs that were 'our songs' with my ex, I always send up a little prayer for him. Along the same lines, last Saturday, when BF and I were in the middle of an argument and I was leaving him a VM on his cell, Lifehouse's 'Whatever It Takes' came on my Itunes. Seeing as I have 10 days worth of songs on my Itunes AND it was on Shuffle AND that's a group that both BF and I love and consider 'ours' AND it's a song abt doing whatever it takes to make up after a fight AND it just happened to play while I was calling BF... I took it as my sign. I just don't believe in coincidence like that, and the VM I left was much sweeter than I had originally planned for it to be.

3 or 4 years ago, I created an ABC album with all the songs that are important memories/reminders for me. I need to update that and have it actually printed.

Oh, and I do the same thing with layouts, too, sometimes. I will look at a layout that I have done in the last couple months and remember which movie or TV show I was watching when I made it. Weird, huh?

Red, Red Wine by UB40 takes me back to 7th and 8th grade summers. Hanging out at the pool, flirting with boys.

So so so many songs. Pour some sugar on me takes me back to a summer when I was 16 or 17 and had a crush on the next door neighbor's son.. that was only with him for the summer. My Best Friend was our wedding song, so I love that one. So many. I love music.

The Grease soundtrack always evokes strong memories in me. I went on my first date to see Grease!!

The Purple Rain soundtrack also causes great memories. We used the song Purple Rain for an ad to sell yearbooks my senior year in HS. Our colors were purple and white, so we thought that would be good.

My mom was a single mom for a while and she always loved John Mellencamp. We used to listen to him all the time!! Every time i hear something of his I just remember how awesome she was and how i learned the words to them all when I was like 5, lol!

I love music too! Anything by Creed reminds me of when I was dating my hubby and some of the horrible things that happened at that time too....makes me cry!
