Default Does anyone know if soldered rings can be separated?

And how much it would cost??

I want to get my separated and get a different wedding band because mine is just not practical since I no longer get free checks on it and retipping of prongs and that sort of thing. the prongs are already getting pokey again and snag on everything. Drives me nuts!

Could I just take it in anywhere and ask them about it?

Yes they can, I had to have my engagement ring and original wedding band unsoldered a few years back when I lost a diamond in my wedding band and it couldn't be fixed so they had to replace the entire band. My rings were from Helzberg's so I just took them back to them and they did it. I have no idea how much it would cost on it's own, we paid the difference to upgrade my band and they included the taking apart & putting together in the price. I don't imagine it would be too expensive though.

You came to the right place, I worked for Carlyle and Co and Friedman's
Short answer, yes. But! Be careful where you take your ring. Make them write the value on the ticket they give you and ask if it's insured especially if they have to ship it out. Most of the time people are very careful since their job depends on it and a lot of people in the jewelry business have been bonded- so you're safe if you go to a big name place. You might pay a little more but trust me it's worth it to know you're going to get your ring back and not something that's been mixed up or switched with another.
I would highly suggest you get those prongs worked on- your stone can fall out if you don't.

If you have a Carlyle and Co near you, take it there. They're the best and most reputable I've worked with or dealt with yet.

Thanks for the info.

I had one of those warranty things or whatever where i would go get them fixed every 6 months for free. Then we moved and the closest place is downtown, smelly, nasty and grossed me out enough to never go back. I ALWAYS had loose diamonds (they're tiny) and bad prongs. So, I don't know if my ring is dumb or the jeweler who made it.

Thanks again!

I have diamonds in both my band (tiny ones) and my engagement ring (two bigger diamons, and a sapphire in the middle). The enagement ring was actually my Mothers, (she died when I was young, its sentimental for me to have it and it's GORGEOUS) and I've never once had problems with the diamonds or prongs. The engagement ring is 35 years old, and I do a lot of work with my hands - baking, crafting, gardening, etc. with it on and I've worn them for five years without ever having them looked at. The prongs around the three rings don't snag.

I hope you can find someone to fix your ring for good, a good jewler. I don't think rings should have to snag, or loose stones!

Thanks Lindy. I have never been happy with the jewelry place we purchased it from. They did a horrible soldering job in the first place and I didn't think it should have to be fixed every time I went in... that just doesn't sound right.

Lindy - you should do a layout about your ring. It's a precious memory/treasure to document. It sounds beautiful!
