Default Anyone been to a Nascar race?

I am thinking of getting Billy tickets to the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway for Christmas.

Any suggestions on what seats to get?

Dh's been to Richmond when Jr won...WOOT!
But no, I haven't had the chance to go. Dh says he'd rather watch it on TV, it's quite a bit more boring at the track with all the noise and stuff.
Then again, he's used to hometown dirt short tracks where you can see all the action at all times during the race.

My brother n law races in the Nascar cup series. I have gone to 2 races, but my husbands family is ate up in it! My husband said for that race track you want to get somewhere on turn four. That is where there is most likely to be a crash. Also ear plugs are a great idea it is VERY LOUD. I will not watch races on TV, but at the track it is more exciting.

My uncle goes to most of the races every year. I haven't been lucky enough to go! But, maybe someday since I only live 25 minutes from the Atlanta Motor Speedway!

oooh! LUCKY! I *love* Nascar. We went to Daytona a few years ago, and I would TOTALLY go back if given the chance.

For Texas, I'd say that you'd want to sit up kinda high since it's a super speedway. You want to be able to see the whole track. When we went to Daytona, we sat just past the start/finish line where they come off pit road. Those seats were GREAT. About the only other place I'd rather sit would be just past Turn 4 right there as they are going to the pits. You definitely don't want the back stretch though.

And yeah, you miss a TON in person that you would normally see on TV, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. It was INCREDIBLE.

lol i hate to admit its on tv at our house friday saturday and sunday---it never gets turned off--heck we even watch the race again going to sleep--lol lets see...we usually go to Talladega, Bristol and then to the Nashville Speedway races...LOVE EM...At Talla---we always take my great aunt and uncles trailer---and watch it off the roof there...its a BLAST Then Nashville we always sit down by the tracks...and wonder around since we've been there a billion times and then of course like Libby said further up where u can see the WHOLE track are the BEST BEST SEATS...if u ask me--and no one is afraid of heights....

Turn 4 or the start/finish line. Also, yeah, high up so you can see the track. And you might get ear plugs. it's loud. Or rent a scanner!!!

We have tickets to the July NHMS (I can't get use to that) speedway Nascar race every year. We usually sell them and only go about every 2-3 years. We used to go every year, we have seats right at the start/finish line around half way up and they are pretty good. I just hate the traffic in and out of the race. I was at the Daytona 500 when Dale Sr. got killed, I will never go back there because of that and because the track is too big. No matter where you sit! I am not sure how big the TX track is. I haven't watched a race all season, how bad is that!

I am jealous too...my brother has been to a bunch of races over the years and it just killed me that I could not go too!!! I would def say to bring the earplugs and a spare pair too, you never know what could happen!!!!! If you get a chance to walk around do so, they have gotten many pics of drivers and cars and the pits and stuff!!!

PS: cdvcreations Did I hear you right?? Your BIL is a Nextel Cup Driver? May I ask who it is?

Yes...please spill who your BIL is!!!!

Amanda, I've been to TMS MANY times. Anywhere on the front stretch up high is a good place to sit. Stay away from the backstretch (ask me how I know ). My husband usually gets tickets off eBay, so we end up between the entrance and exit of pit road and have been really pleased with our seats. In 2005, we were lucky enough to sit at the Start/Finish Line when Carl Edwards won - woohoo Backflips, baby! I personally like to sit around row 45 - 50. It's high up, but not so high that it's a PITA to go down to the bathrooms PM me (or catch me on YIM) if you want more details.

Thanks everyone!

I am still undecided on what to get him for Christmas. He is harder to shop for than my mom.

i would say turn 4 or the start finish line. aaron actually likes the start/finish line better this year at KS. i haven't been to the tx one although we are considering it for next year. we have an inside way of getting tickets in tx anytime we want them so we don't have to decide ahead of time like most ppl.

My parent's are also season ticket holders to the Phoenix Speedway. They also RV so we have a great spot to party/crash and then awesome seats in Allison at the begining of pit row! (We can't go in Nov because of my son's school schedule though)

You MUST get the Nextell Scanners - it is really the only way to hear what is going on LOL.

aaron bought a scanner this year. we figured it was cheaper to buy than to spend 50 bucks a year renting. they only got one headset and will get another one next year. us girls go shopping during the race so just the boys actually GO to the race, but we like to tailgate

My ILs go to Loudon, NH every September to see the races. DH has gone with them once and he'll be going with them again next year. I think their seats are always in front of pit row (road?), but not right up front...somewhere in the middle.
