Default Who peed in her Cheerios?

Seriously. I went to the post office and I had two packages to mail. Both packages were ready to go.... addressed, packed up... except one box, I ran out of packing tape so the bottom was taped and not the top! I got to the counter and the PO lady is like, "We don't pack your boxes for you."
<---- that was me, because I had no idea what she was talking about.
Then she points at the packing tape on the rack behind me and says, "You need to tape your own boxes. You can buy a roll of tape there."

Seriously, this was a very small box.... like 9x7x5 inches. It just needed tape to close the top up. So, I look at the packing tape and it's nearly $4!!! The shipping on that box wasn't even $4!!!

So, she calculates the shipping on my OTHER package and tells me it will only be 5 cents more to upgrade to Priority... so I do. Whatever. Only then does she go, "Okay, I guess I can tape this closed for you." As if it was such a HUGE favor I was asking her for.

Then she's like, "We've got these rules for a reason. You wouldn't believe the crazy things people bring in for us to pack! THis girl once asked me to package up a load of laundry!"
And I'm thinking, I'm not asking for something ridiculous! I just need 12 inches of tape!!!

Then I went to Target and bought the same size roll of tape for half the price.
I hate the Post Office. No one is ever very friendly.

Which is why I always do carrier pickup - I don't have to face anyone.

Some people are seriously lazy...

I was at WalMart a few weeks ago and they had 4 packs of chocolate bars on sale, but they didn't ring up at the sale price. I said "those are supposed to be $2.27" and she said "Well they ring up at $2.87.....do you still want them?" and I was thinking yes I do...at the price they are advertised at! So I said "well, they are supposed to be $2.27..." so she rolled her eyes and went to go look. LOL I know it wasn't that much money saved, but still...if you advertise a price, the customer should GET that price!

LOL!! anywho, took it back in, the sweet man fixed it for me and didn't charge me again!!

*sigh*

i've just about seen it all.

The post office by us is in a gas station, and it will just randomly close if they don't feel like working it. Seriously. I went 3 times in one week since it was closed for no reason TWICE! IN ONE WEEK! DH sent a letter to USPS complaining, and you know what they did? They forwarded it to that post office. Helpful.

oh, i forgot to add that it came back to me cause she mixed up the 'to' and 'from'.

My dh is a 30 year postal employee. Like anywhere, there are good eggs and bad, lol. Not everyone who works for them is rude and discourteous .

I hope you remember this .

Dh is a clerk, but he works in a processing plant, those folks who get the mail to and from all those post offices.

That person was not too nice. Here they are really nice there. I took something in without the packing box because I was going to get one there and the guy got a box out cut it down to size (so that shipping would be cheaper) and taped it all up for me. I had no idea he was going to do that, very nice of him. Ugh I do hate rude people like that though.

the post office people here are always SOOOOOOOO nice to me! I think they feel sorry for me lugging around packages and 2 children (and now being 6 months preggo too!). I'm surprised at how nice some people are.

Playing devil's advocate here, but she is right. You wouldn't believe some of the things that people ask the PO to do. I used to work there and it is just amazing.

Well, I've gotta say that sometimes the fruitcake isn't behind the counter, but in front of it!
(this gives me an excuse to tell this story LOL)

Rachel and I went to the local PO to mail a pkg to my mom...there were 4 or 5 ppl in line ahead of us, and a couple of ppl working the counter. I thought, that's not too bad...shouldn't take too long.
That is, until, a 50-something man put his package on the counter...a wrapped package...a package wrapped in silvery gift wrap, with curly ribbons and bows on top LOL. The staff spent a good ten minutes trying to explain to this guy that his granddaughter's birthday present shouldn't be shipped in gift wrap...it wasn't sturdy paper...it would rip...the bows would be removed...all in all, it wasn't packing paper. Everyone in line was stifling laughs, rolling eyes, shaking heads.
HE NEVER GOT IT. He insisted that they ship it in the gift wrap, so they slapped a label on it and pulled out the tape roller...I wish I knew what that thing looked like when after being shipped from Oklahoma to Arizona.

Yeah.....my Christmas cards I ordered on November 12th from WHCC are still stuck in Canada Post's customs warehouse in Ontario...since November 18th. No one knows how much I detest the post office right now. They haven't been siezed, and they haven't been released.

I hate the post office. Big time. The folks here are not knowledgable, you get different answers from one person to another, it's irritating.

I had almost the same thing happent to me and I was so appauled at how rude the postal worker was that I filed a complaint online through the USPS website that got put in her file (not in character for me, but she had me in tears). If someone hates their job so much that they have to be rude, then they either need a vaca or a new job. I'm sure postal workers get tired of telling people to secure their packages, but it is their job! It's not like people are intentionally trying to get away with something!

I'm sorry she was rude about it. I think it's the same across all customer service jobs that it sometimes is hard to remember that the person in front of you hasn't heard you say the same exact thing 30 times before them ... that for them, it may be the first time hearing it. I'm glad she ended up helping you in the end.

I can't imagine working in retail or a post office at this time of year. All those irritating people (like me one year) who send their stuff out at the very last minute and grumble because it won't get there by Christmas.

One year I sent out a package to a friend in Canada hoping it would be there before Christmas ... and I don't know if I sent it even a week before Christmas. I was so dumb. I think she got it the middle of January. It had some baby clothes for her little guy.

I'd forgotten I'd sent her those clothes until just now! Funny how something can trigger a memory ...

I have two fun PO stories.

At the PO I used to go, the same postal worker told me on three separate occasions that he absolutely LOVED my coat. *lol* It's my fancy mandarin collar toggle button embroidered with purple and pink flower winter coat that I will never ever throw away.

At the PO I use now, they're open until 7 pm (!!) every weeknight and so very efficient. I had to box and mail a package to New Zealand and was in and out of there in 20 minutes.

Can I just say I *hate* the Post Office and leave it at that!

OTOH, I do love our Postman/Woman. They take such good care of us - even getting out of the jeep to put packages in the backyard when it's raining, since we don't have an overhang over our front door.

Man, I hate that when people are just beyond rude. i understand that is is a frustrating job, but a little common courtesy wouldn't kill them.

A friend of mine works at the post office and she said that it is really rough. I try not to complain to much because Ive heard some of the stories that happen there. It can be a very stressful job as any customer service job is. For the most part Ive not really had any problems with the post offices near us. We usually go to the one in a gas station near us and it is closed more then a regular post office but the people who run the store also run the post office so they can usually help you if you need something done and they are very friendly.

yeah, I've come across that so many times. The POs have stopped carrying such basic supplies such as packing tape and pens for everyone's use because there are those out there who take advantage of the service. it is so sad. The only tape they have behind the counter is the Priority tape and if you're not shipping Priority you can't use it.
I'm glad you got it figured out though, I can only imagine what the lines are like at the PO these days

Me too!

Apparently I AM an idiot because after 3 years at the same job I still have a hard time getting all the mailing rules right. Luckily the ladies at my PO are always willing to straighten me out. They may laugh at me when I leave but at least they're courteous while I'm there!
