Default pregnancy related question

I am 30 weeks pregnant with our second child. Last time we went to the doctor we found out that he has already dropped and in position. The doctor was nervous at first, she thought it might be a sign of preterm labor. After checking my cervix she found everything looking good. She just told me to try and take it easy....hard though when you have a 21 month old.

This weekend I started getting period like cramps. I didn't think too much of them because they didn't feel like the Braxton Hicks I had with my first son. Well, last night these cramps woke me up and lasted for about an hour before they went away and I was able to go back to sleep. I haven't had anymore yet but do you think this is normal or should I be concerned. I don't go back to the doctor until next Wednesday.

I know every pregnancy is different but I didn't have this with my first son so I am not sure what I should do.

Anyone else have experiece with this?

i had labor pains when i was really close to giving birth, so i'm not sure if that's something to be concerned about. if baby is moving as usual, then i think it's alright. but just to be sure, call your doctor

I'd probably call the doc...my DS was born at 35 weeks and like you he dropped early...since he was my first and I'd had pretty strong BH contractions all along, the days before he was born I didn't think too much of the ones I was having, but looking back I'm pretty sure I was having real contractions and just not aware of it..they were stronger than usual..when my water finally broke and I got to the hospital I was dilated to 8 and 100% effaced...my doc said I'd probably been dilating for a couple of days without realizing it. Anyway, I'd probably get checked just to be sure.

Yeah, I would probably have it checked out. It could just be a bladder or kidney infection, but it's better to be safe--and even if it is one of those, you would want it treated so you don't have to be in pain for too long.

I would call. I had similar pains with my second and was in preterm labor at 30 weeks. I was having freaky contractions and couldn't feel them. I didn't even know it until I had a non stress test. I was on 7 weeks of bed rest after that.

Call. I got them too with my second and they lasted until I gave birth. It was off & on, but not fun.

I had those too and my daughter was born at 36 weeks. Are you drinking enough water? The reason I went into pre-term labor was that I was dehydrated.

Thanks ladies for the advice. I called and spoke to a nurse. They said it was normal and that they are BH. I told her that my BH with my son never felt this way and she said every pregnancy is different. I am kinda surprised that they didn't want to see me but if they get worse I will call again.

when is your next appointment? If they don't want to see you now, you should insist that the doctor examine you at your next appointment. I had the same thing with my second pregnancy and it turned out I was dilated to 2 at 30 weeks. They continued and I ended up at 4 two weeks later, so my doctor put me on bed rest.

Good luck!

I'm not really sure about that because I've never been in labor (although I have an almost 4-year old but he was born at 31 weeks by emergency c-section)....

I was freaking out today (at 32 weeks pregnant now) just like you are... I was having some cramping but it ended up being that I had to go potty! lol! Or at least I think that's what the problem was.... I'm feeling a little crampy again but I have a doctor's appt tomorrow morning so if there's no change before then I'll ask while I'm there...

I'd call the doctor if I were you though and was woken up by the pain. My sister had a bladder infection during the end of her pregnancy and was told it was really common. Maybe that's the problem? I don't know... I hope you find out and get it solved soon!

My next appointment is not until next Wednesday! I just called back though and told them that I have been cramping again and that they are not going away and that I want to be seen. I hope to hear back soon!

I can't believe they didn't want to see you. I would hope they would take you seriously and have you come in.

hmmm, interesting! I had BH contractions with all 3 pregnancies starting at like 16 weeks and they felt exactly the same with each pregnancy. To me, they don't feel "crampy" either... nor do they hurt... so I would imagine it's something else. I hope they listen to you this time!

I agree with Sarah. A cramp is a totally different feeling than a BH. A BH doesn't make you feel like you need to go even though you don't actually need to go. Make sense?

I would call. I went into pre-term labor at 35 weeks and was shocked when I got the hospital and they told me I was at 4cm, I would have never dreamed I had dialated at all. I was also having 'irratations' as the nurse called them and didn't feel it at all. Honestly, I hadn't even realized that I was in labor, I only went to the hospital with a placenta aburption.

I went to the doctor late this afternoon and the doctor checked my cervix and it was closed very tight and long. That is great news. The doctor thinks that I am not drinking enough water. She said that if I am even the slightest dehydrated that could cause my uterus to become iritated. I have been drinking water like crazy and I haven't had any cramping since. Hopefully this really is the solution to the problem. Thanks again for all the advice.

Glad you found out what it was, and that pre-term labor isn't the issue.
