Default The House the Time Forgot....

As I was sitting in my mother-in-law's living room last night (for my FIL's b-day) I couldn't help but be impressed with her ability to be the WORLD'S TACKIEST DECORATOR!! My God, this woman has the UGLIEST house I've ever seen. Picture it with me...

The carpets are all baby blue. BABY BLUE, ya'll! The walls are mostly all this very dirty-looking white color, with most of trim in a clashing-with-the-carpet baby blue. Curtains are, you guessed it, baby blue (with ugly white lace accents). None of the furniture matches, and not in a cool way. Every room drips of her hand-made crochet crafts and mind-numbing amounts of knick-knacks. She even has, framed about their kitchen table, a PAINT BY NUMBER Thomas Kinkaid print that she created a few years ago.

I.kid.you.not.

To prove that I am not simply a grumpy daughter-in-law, I photographed her living room mantle last night to share you with all a small snipet of the horror of this woman's house...

See? Told you I wasn't exagerating!

Huh. I guess my house is ugly then. Right down to the popcorn ceilings. Granted, I do not have diagonal wood paneling or a plush tigger toy by my fireplace.. (he's in the toy bin next to the fireplace)........or blue carpet.

Tigger plush toys are totally acceptable if you have children living in your home. But to actually DECORATE with them is unacceptable. lol

we have some popcorn ceiling in our house - i hate it!! BUT its better than it used to be. When we moved in our living room was MUSTARD YELLOW inluding the popcorn ceiling which they painted said yellow color! It was awful. There was also one wall that was painted darkish green and they painted the brick fireplace red with navy grout.. its a good thing we looked past that and saw the potential.. lol

My whole house is it. even the kitchen. I loathe it.

I wonder if she really likes that, um... eclectic style, or if she just doesn't care!

And I thought the former owners' style for our house was bad! LOL! We bought our house with bad wall paper EVERYWHERE! There were green, pink, and purple carpets throughout the house, a blue (I mean BLUE!) kitchen, duck & pear wallpaper, awful faded wallpaper in the bathroom with lilypads on it! LOL! It was bad! I'd share some photos, but I don't want to steal the thread! lol! Thank God I had a vision of how the house should look, and it's almost there now! It's completely different than the previous owners had it! Yay!

That blue was pretty popular in the 80s - maybe she's waiting for it to make a come back.

Um... are we related because I swear that is my MIL's house!!

And the sad part is she gifts us/DH that kind of stuff for Christmas and his birthday! We reserved the guest bathroom for our "collection", the kids don't mind it! (Its their toy room most of the time so they use the bathroom mostly)!

You have made me laugh this afternoon.
Fuh-ughh-leee.
It is like a bad time capsule.
Does it have its own special smell too (those rooms usually do)?
Now let us all repeat the mantra...." I will not keep and display every knick-knack ever given to me...."

Oh man the painting on the wall, yikes. I think if that wasn't there everything else would be tolerable.

Well, except the Tiger Plush toy and the Thomas Kincade stuff that I don't see in the picture but I hate that style.
