Default Shoe Recycling

Has anyone here ever participated in the Nike Shoe Recycling Program? I had heard about it but hadn't participated. Well, I now have another pair of worn tennis shoes so I figured I would try to participate instead of throwing them directly into the trash. (Apparently they break them down and grind them up to make the rubber stuff that goes on running tracks, etc.) More info here:http://www.nikereuseashoe.com/

Problem is this time when I look for a drop off site most of the places are gyms, physical therapy, etc. and I am somewhat intimidated to go there. I did find a shoe shop that is very close to my home but I have never heard of it. I will call in the morning to see if they want my icky old shoes (how embarrassing). I know this is pathetic but I feel like chickening out and just tossing them in the trash but I know this is the right thing to try to do. Someone please send me good thoughts and the courage to go through with this.
