how can my 4th graders decorate this chair for a chair auction? (Sorry i don't know how to place the picture here instead of what appears above.) Could I modge podge it? Last edited by Paula Patrick; 04-15-2010 at 11:02 AM. |

If it is a wooden chair, then yep, you can modge podge that puppy all the way!

they sell a spray paint that adheres to plastic, so wondering if you could prime it w/ that and then have the kids alter it.... either w/ papers/modge podge style or w/ other paints... hand prints... etc.

No the chair is a textured plastic.
If I use modge podge do I have to prime the chair first? Should I use modge podge as the "glue" for the images or will white school glue work? |

I would prime the chair with the spray paint made to go onto plastic like Lauren suggested. Then I'd use ModgePodge to adhere the stuff to the chair and then also to seal it on. Make sure it is totally dry before you start putting the protecting coating on though and apply really thin layers and allow each to dry before doing the next one.

Okay, so, since these are kids.....should I after the primer is done dry, modge podge a small area at a time? Sorry to be a pain, I have never done modge podge.

I would put modge podge on the backs of the papers as the kids add them. I would not cover the whole chair with the modge podge right off - it will dry in some areas before you have a chance to stick something to it I think. If you start to layer stuff too much, I'd stop and let everything dry well before starting to add more.
Try using a squeegee/scraper/straight edge tool to really get the papers adhered to the chair and to smooth out bubbles trapped under the papers. This will also move some of the adhesive out from under the papers so that it dries more quickly. You can wipe off the excess with a damp paper towel before it dries. |
