Default Any Program Recommendations?

My computer died yesterday. Everything is wiped clean from it, I am down to IE 6 and lost all my favs, msn messenger, desktops, etc but luckily I just backed up for the first time in months in the beginning of February! SO I did lose some pictures, but I know it could have been so much worse, so I am counting my blessings and moving on.

I have always had PSE 4 and am wondering if that is the most ideal program to use for cateloging my pictures. And I am wondering if I have to to retag everything when I reload it all back into my hd.

I don't even want that thought to go any further in my mind

So any recommendations of programs for categorizing pictures, kits, etc would be greatly appreciated. Or any other tips you have for restarting from square one.

Thanks!
Laura

I just loaded Lightroom from Adobe. I have tried the organizer in PSE, but never could get in the swing of things. Lightroom seems very streamlined so far, but I'll have to use it longer to know for sure! I have also tried Picasa (free) and like the way it works...just was less convienient for me because I disconnect my portable hard drives frequently that have my pics on them and these other programs keep a thumbnail so you can see even when the drive is disconnected.
Good luck! Hope you haven't lost too much!!

I have Windows Vista and I use the Windows Photo Gallery to organize all my photos and digi supplies. If you have Vista, I would recommend giving it a try.

It's also on Windows 7, but you have to search for it on the start menu and then it'll allow you to download it, along with Windows Messenger and a few other assorted programs.

The first things we load...

Piriform's CCleaner, Defraggler, and Recuva

UnzipThemAll (allows you to unzip all of your files at once)

PIXResizer

MalwareBytes

And then, of course, I go font hunting...which necessitates the use of a font manager...right now I use AMP Font Viewer
