Default Has anyone moved/shared their ACDSee database?

I'm thinking about following the instructions to move my ACDSee database from my internal to my external hard drive so that I can share it with our laptop.

I have the instructions from the ACDSee website, but honestly, I'm kind of afraid to do it for fear that something will go wrong and I'll lose everything. Has anyone ever done this and have any words of advice, warning or reassurance?

Thanks!
Dawn

Dawn I tried to move mine from my desktop to my laptop and failed!!! Not sure what I did wrong. I copied it from my internal to my external and then tried to "see" it on my laptop and I couldn't.

I didn't lose any of it from my desktop but I did create a duplicate of everything so now on my desktop I have for example 2 copies of every file in Here We Grow by Dani and if I click the "wrong" one it will say something to the effect that "this file is on a outside source please insert or plug it in to see it". Yea not looking forward to deleting all those multiple files.

You may not have that problem though since you are wanting to move the whole thing and I was wanting to just copy it!!!

If you have ACDsee9 its easy, you just export/import the database.

I do it all the time to updated my database on my laptop.

When I switched from one harddrive to another, it did duplicate all the tags.

I've done it. It was a couple years ago, but works like a CHARM. As long as you backup your database, if anything goes wrong, you won't lose your tags. I followed instructions from digiscrapinfo. it was very detailed and perfect. And if you need any help, heidi is great over there. I had the added challenge that one computer had vista and one xp, but she walked me through the process.

no tags were duplicated and my database is on my EHD so I can use it on both comps. basically, you are just mapping ACDSee on both computers to read the database off the EHD. good luck!

Oh, speaking of double tags... It's happened to me, and it's really annoying. Is there a way how to get rid of that or do I have to do it manually (in which case it'll never be done completely)?

It would be too tedious to explain how it happened, anyway, if I had noticed it before I had loads of new tagged kits, I guess I could have just erase and import again, but like this I really don't know what to do.

ETA: I've managed to solve this problem, because I started to think about it thanks to my asking it here. Sorry to have spammed someone else's thread with it!

We did it this past January (DH did it following the instructions on digiscrapinfo) and it works great. You cannot use the program without the EHD attached but that is OK since that is where I store my scrapbooking stuff anyway. Just sometimes when I want to look at my pictures using it (instead of windows explorer or LR) I get the error message and then plug the EHD in, restart and it works like a charm.

So, we just got a new comp with windows 7 and i had to play around to get the database just right, but it worked. what operating systems are on your computers? if they're different, there is an extra step!

I have XP and Vista, but I see the website has directions for that.
