Default A reintroduction and a question

Hi, I used to sort of post here a few years ago. I struggle with trying to fit in and it seems like there's a tight knit community and despite being loud in real life, I'm very shy on the computer.

My name is Alisa and I have two kiddos. A just turned 5 last week and J turns 3 this saturday! I'm from NY and am an accountant by day and a scrapper by night. I'm trying hard to get on some CTs but well.....I suck. :-)

My question is: I've seen a lot of layouts recently where it looks like a piece of paper ends in the middle and another (usually the same paper) ends in the middle from the other side with just an inch or so in the middle showing the background paper. I've tried doing this by simply laying paper's down but it doesn't look right.

Can someone help with how to do it or point me to a template?

thanks so much!

Well this is frustrating. I swear I've been seeing them all over the place and now under pressure I can't find one in the gallery. I'll keep looking and see what I can come up with.

Traci has a great template with this in her Bottom Ups: Set 7:

I did this page w/out using a template~

I just dragged the papers onto my background twice and adjusted it until I liked how it looked. Sorry that's not very technical help, though.

do you mean like the template in the bottom center of this template set?

I've also seen other templates elsewhere but if you didn't want to buy one you could layer 2 copies of the paper on top of the background paper and move them move them to where you like them. Some people use clipping masks to make the nice rounded corners or brackets I've seen too.

ETA: posted at the same time as Kresta, lol

YES! That is what I meant. I like that so much, also the straight edges. I think my issue is coming in the shadowing, I just can't get it to look right.

But I may buy that template set so I can at least get one right.

Well, you know me, Alisa, and there is even a photo of your son in my gallery, so you should not worry about posting 'round here!

I'm not the world's most fantastic shadower or anything lol.. but for that sort of situation, I'd move the shadow distance to 0 and mess with the softness/blur instead (so that both sides- are equally shadowed.. and not just one piece is shadowed in the center kwim?)

Welcome Alisa! I usually do different shadows when I put papers on like that, because what I normally do doesn't look "right". I just adjust the size until it's how I like it...but like Meg said, that's not very technical LOL!

I hope you stick around and keep posting! We don't bite....most of the time anyway

Hi!!! Welcome to SSD. I swear you will love it here. Just dive in on forums and post your creations. I just got active in January and it is the best thing I have ever done. I have met some wonderful sweet ladies here that I wouldn't give up in a heart beat! Everyone is always friendly and very helpful.

Also.....on those templates from Traci - They totally rock. I have them and love them. Basically any templates you find here, from any of the designers, are ALL good. It is amazing the talent that is in this one store!

Have fun scrapping! I can't wait to see your pages!
